Yes and No. Every country has racist people, from the USA to Brazil, the UK to Spain, Serbia to Turkey. Oman to Iran, Australia to Antartica. The uk took a big stand against it a long time ago in sports and some of the most idolised people in the uk are black or Asian. While we're not perfect we have done more to combat it compared to many places. Whenever we goto Eastern Europe or Southern, with italy, turkey, croatia, greece etc being the worst places, black sportsmen are abused. The problem is that Uefa & fifa are too gutless to take real action. I still don't ever think racism will be wiped out anywhere though and those who think it has/will/could be are misguided, there will always be someone to stir shit up no matter what side of the fence they're ok

Rasicm in football is awful. There is this campaign that started a few years ago ,that I fully support, called " Stand Up Speak Up " that has to do with racism across Europe in football.
I have a set of those wristbands.
Posted by Sunsnail on May-19-2007 18:26:
I think the video makes the problem seem a bit bigger than it really is.
but I have no idea
and i care

Sadly those wristbands became fashion items, from the anti racism, the anti-bullying or the yellow ones from cancer to do with lance armstrong, so people would wear them unaware of what they were standing for

that spanish coach is a scumbag and im so glad france destroyed his team at the world cup
Posted by Frenchie on May-19-2007 18:29:
I dont wear 'em, I've worn them to seminars we had here for the it, but aside from that I don't. I donated money to the cause so they sent them to me.

Racism is a problem of course, but
I hate it how the video is all about how bad europe is. Like america doesn't have these problems.
And when the fans chant and put their hands in the air, that doesn't mean they're saying "hail!", jesus.

Why? You're a girl in Canada. Do you care about football? Is racism in football any worse than racism outside football?

yeah every country has its problems but sorry, over here in america you never hear about crowds at sporting events collectively making monkey noises, throwing banana peels on the field and yelling out racial slurs directed at black players like they do in european soccer games...things like that are absolutely unheard of here and there would be riots...and yes, racism is far worst in europe than it is in the US

Yeah... plus I had a discussion with a guy who had an anti-rasism one... "why are there two bands one white one black?" "for the different races..." "only one race.. human... what if a white person has a kid with a black person what is the kid? people aklways say black... like it's a mark of being non-white... and what about asian people..." "you think (may have been drink cos I was blazing lol) too much"
Hate people making these 'statements' who don't even think about what they are saying.

Do I care? That's like asking if Clovis likes beer. It was my life up until 3-4 years ago. Yes, I'm a female in Canada....you're point is? I'm European, I was born in Europe and I'm an avid football player/coach and fan overall. I'm a huge supporter of any anti-racism group or organization so put 2 things together that I support full heartedly, I'm going to take an interest in.
I'm not saying that I think it's better or worse.

hmm not really. Europeans have a superiority complex when it comes to accepting others. But here in chicago, I have been harassed by both blacks, and whites, and brown(?) too. I am white but fully mexican. The neighborhoods are fully segregated for colors too. Some neighborhoods it's not safe to enter because the blacks are gangbangers or the whites are pretty supremist not wanting blacks or brown people to enter their neighborhood.
Anyways, in short Europeans=most racist people you can every come cross than oddly enough mexicans.

Well....well.....ok Ive got nothing. The fucking western European nations are the way the US should be. In italy(Rome mind you) I saw the gay flag next to the Italian one and the Eu flag. All were equal and this was a gov building. Here if that happened you'd have public officials condeming it and religious groups saying all those involved would be going to hell for this.
But yeah Western European nations and scandinavia are much more tolerant than Eastern nations. But I love the west and they are the ideal ways the US gov should be running things other than the high taxes.

easy
the fact that racism in football events in europe is commonplace and accepted is more than indictive that europeans are more intolerant than americans.
in the US, you NEVER hear about rowdy racist crowds at NFL, baseball, basketball and hockey events...its in fact ludicrous to even think people would throw bananas onto a football field or basketball court
Posted by Sunsnail on May-19-2007 21:17:
I think its obvious that since racism is more accepted in europe, that would make them more tolerant. Right? tolerant of racism... ugh

Posted by Dervish on May-19-2007 21:23:
Crowds in the EU are just more rowdy. The racisim is mainly an attempt to put off people. (though obviously they are, but I mean in US you don't get so agressive in gernal at games)

So this makes it acceptable to offend people because of thier color rather than their playing ability?
