-- Can't record in stereo anymore????!?!?!

Can't record in stereo anymore????!?!?!

I have a Saffire interface. I have a couple things going in - Motif ES8 on 1, dj mixer on 2, etc.

In the past I've been able to record, for example, dj sets from my mixer - into the interface - into Soundforge in stereo, with an RCA to TRS cable.

Today I was messing around with Ableton, trying to learn how to use Ableton with my mixes and such. I wasn't aware of anything I changed, but now that I'm done and wanted to record, I am no longer able to get a signal in stereo. The Motif, on channel 1, will only record on the Left; the dj mixer on channel 2 will only record on the Right, etc.

WTH?? I know this is operator error, but does anyone have any suggestions how to get back to being able to record in streo through the interface? I've tried unplugging, replacing cables (just to double check), etc. HELP... please!?!?!

Some soundcards have a link button to link the channels???

Have you turned down the volume of one channel??

Good thought - I double checked and both volumes are up.

If it helps in diagnosing, channel 1 only records on the left channel and channel 2 only records on the right speaker. I'm about to reinstall the interface and see if that helps.

Thanks for the suggestion.

in ableton, go to the output section of your sound card and see what it reads... 3/4 mono/ 3/4/ stereo?

select stereo... sounds like your drivers converted to mono. also go to control panel -> sound card and see what it lists as input/output. if you want stereo make sure it reads 1/2 not just etc

Thanks flutlicht junky & Zombie0729 - I think it was some combination of the two. When I was using Ableton to mix, I had to turn the interface to "soundcard" mode and when I record it goes to "tracking." I was also messing around with the outputs in Ableton trying to get the "cue" function to work properly w/headhphones.

I switched is back to tracking, but when I did, it wasn't linking the two channels. I hit link (in the software, never knew that function was there) and still no stereo. So, I also reactivated the outputs in Ableton, undoing them all, then reapplying them all and it works fine now. Thanks!
