Psy Trance Basslines

I used to think I was pretty good at basslines, but I'd like a check up.

When I'm making these kind of basslines, I usally boost a bit in the 150-200 hz range, and cut at around 50-80hz. I boost 150-200 for the punch, and cut 50-80 so there is room for the kick...Though I make even more room for the kick by omiting and bassnote that hits when the kick hits, so there is no overlaping sound. The 80hz cut just makes the bassline less boom so the Kick has more implyed impact. I think a boost at 150-200 gives the bassline enough bass to rumble while the kkick gets the job done.

What do you think of this plan? Any suggestions, or if you dont, tell me.

I think you're going about it the wrong way. By cutting out 50-80hz you're actually taking out all the sub & low end power from the bassline, so while it may sound ok on your stereo on any system that goes down low it'll sound completely plastic..

As far as notching out frequencies goes, it depends on what key your bassline is in..I would highpass the bassline at 30hz to get rid of low end rumble & make small notches at different frequencies depending on the key (sweep & see which frequencies sound bad to you)..

Then i would use a bass enhancer tuned to the key of the bass to give it a little more punch..Side chain it to your kick & you're good to go..

Another important thing is how you process your bass synth itself, half the work is in having the correct envelope & ADSR settings & the other half in how you eq & process it..

More info on this pls , I know about boosting EQ in certain freq to 'boost the key' but what software you use for this and how?

Well suppose your bassline is in A1 which equals 55Hz..

What you could do then is take a plugin such as Waves Rbass/Maxx bass or Voxengo LF punch/LF max to name a few & set them to 55hz..What these plugins do is trick your ears into thinking there is more bass there then there actually is..If your bass is in a low key you can tune it to the second harmonic etc...

I always thought your basslines were fine. There's a lot of room in the way you can make a bassline. Not all psy basslines have to sound the same.
