Review : Rene Amez at CZ

OMG what a day it was everything i hoped and more !!! Dirty beats... Dirty Dancing... Just a Dirty Day!
I haven't seen zone that packed since new years it was a bunch of monkeys running around a zoo !!! Sooooo much fun! I was having so much fun i switched who i'm getting a ride with to Kitchener 3 times so i can stay just that lil bit longer ... Vibe was off the walls and i was in a state of major exitement hyperness jumping on tables banning on walls just madness !!! i can't say one thing was bad about this entire weekend ... well i did get a mondo sunburn on my nose from sitting on the patio too long and now i looked like Rudolph the red nosed sketchbag. LoL
As for the tunes ... they were so solid, i honestly wished Rene would have played longer even though i had zero energy left to dance i stayed till the end because he was tearing S*** up and after his set when he told my buddy that he played about 50% of his own tracks i was overly impressed. Deko-ze rocked as always... but he can't do wrong imo, unless he plays Diva house. Sydney played nice and dirty <3! I don't know who was playing while we were playing so u think you can dance at our retarded talent show on the stage upstairs ppl were having so much they were rolling around on the stage
This defiantly goes down as one of the best zone experiences to date beating out Entrana the weekend before ... for me at least, Cuz so manny more TA's were out and good friends always make the party

wicked times. got to zone around 2. wasnt feeling too hot after freedom. val was finishing up. solid set. nathan and sydney also rocking it. pretty much a repeat of freedom. rene was 40 min late or so. but got on and just dropped it hard. he's def a great dj for zone. too bad they had to cut em. he'll be back on the 16th at footworks. my goal of the night was to hear climb the wall and did and that made it for me

so many things- so many laughs- so much fun- that stage just gets better and better everytime- patrick and andrea....the bestest- the heat was unbearable at times, but you come to expect it with this fine establishment- the crowd was amazing and full of energy- every dj layed down the best they could- nathan and sydney---wow--dirty filtyness-
and rene- i waited this out and i am so glad i did...can't wait until the return this summer--- well, until next time all....sketchily good times as always....

I must say, there were some choice cuts at college and spadina yesterday. Walked through there on my way to and from lazydaze and was highly entertained. I love long weekends at that intersection.

Geli, you suck!

Fun fucking times. I actually closed the place for the first time which I thought was pretty gross and disturbing. Then again it did end just after 7 which isn't that bad really. Great tunes, great sketch, hilarious moments and antics.

Rene was decent, I wasn't impressed really... mixing was off.. He did drop The Knife - We Share Our Mother's Health (Trentemoller Remix) which rocked my socks...but that was about it. Oh, and that insomnia remake is le killer as well.

Vinyl Junkies and Nathan Barato played the best sets for me. They were more techy than I'm more used to. Heard some great minimalistic tracks including Artology, which I thought I was dreaming and couldn't recall this morning. WTF. Sydney was droppin' them more harder and less of the vocal stuff too which was refreshing from her. Had a blast rockin it out on stage, the "canadian retard dance idol" auditions upstairs, and relaxin in the sun outside.

Sketchy fireworks later on were great too

<3 to everyone who made it. Shouts to the Hamilton Crew! Especially Shaniqua. lol.

Sarah the skasian you were missed too!

Also...doing the dirty dancing with kelly was hilarious. I totally should have given her the lift! lol

My first time @ the Zone and I have to admit I actually really enjoyed myself. It was really dark when we first got in there but I remember hearing that your eyes adjust after about 5 minutes and then it was fine. I even remember reading the schematics of the place so I knew where to go and more importanly where to avoid. The patio didn't feel as sketchy as I thought but then again I was there around 5PM. Rene delivered a good set but nowhere near his Hotel set earlier in January.

I definitely would go back again and would encourage anyone who hasn't been to check it off their list of places to see.

Oh and I lived up to my cozo nickname as I did inappropriately frisk shanny a few times. His friend looked at me like wtf r u doing but I just smiled and said don't worry about it

Posted by Banelord on May-22-2007 18:18:

have not been there since halloween, got off freedom early did not enjoy that at all. Spend all my energy at the zone. They should sell some sunglass at that place because once u get out on the street, your eyes are in pain. All I can say is the Zone baby that place is just insane.

In a close battle Al's Lumber Yard beat Superspins Laundromat 4-3.

Guest appearances were the theme of the day, and it was the guest appearance of Evil Prince Carney that put Al's Lumber Yard over the top.

Thanks to all those who participated, all proceeds are being distributed to Zone charities.
