James Talk this week on ClubxSession
James Talk's unique funky tech and acid house sound can already hold claim for causing mayhem on many of the world's finest dancefloors, and all at the age of just 23. Hailing from the murkiest waters of Southampton, James has already achieved a tremendous amount at such a young age and it seems like things aren't slowing down either.
2006 has been spent by Talky laying the foundations and releasing his first mix compilation; the second installment of the Thinking Out Loud series. The mix incorporates big up party electrohouse, squelching acid lines and funky bass and is set to propel James to a new level. James launched the compilation at Miami WMC and followed this by embarking on a major UK tour supporting the CD. This incorporated major gigs at Product at Stealth (Nottingham), Type at The Cross (London), High Tide at The Opera House (Bournemouth) and his Curfew Time residency at Turnmills (London) amongst others. In 2006 James has also been rocking the dancefloors at Shindig (Newcastle), ClubClass (Ministry Of Sound, London), Ageha (Tokyo), Apriori (Moscow), Furry Music (Oslo) and at Sphinx (Gdansk, Poland). This follows his superb performances in 2005 alongside the likes of Nic Fanciulli, Lee Burridge, James Zabiela and Desyn Masiello at nights such as Godskitchen (Birmingham), Punchfunk (Portsmouth) and Renaissance (The Cross, London).
In the studio James has been just as prolific with eight awesome remixes completed including Meat Katie & Aquasky's 'Feathers' (on Adrift Records), Denney 'The Phantom' (Saved), Kid Blue 'Nothing To Lose' (Lot49) and Hyper 'Twisted Emotions' (Hope). And if that wasn't enough James has been flat out with his original productions. His collaboration with Audiofly called 'Cool Wet Grass' is soon to be released on Get Physical, whilst 'House Rhythm' and 'Wiggle Wiggle Shake Shake' were the first releases on his new label Spoken Recordings, with his and Dave Robertson's 'Mine & His EP' and a full artist album to follow.
Such efforts follow an excellent start to James' career in which three of his productions were signed to Saved Records, whilst further work for Nu-Republic Records and Phil Docherty's Pravo Recordings also gave James massive exposure. 'Love That Acid' reached no. 10 in the UK Buzz Charts, whilst 'Get Down' featured on Nic Fanciulli's Renaissance mix compilation. These efforts received support from the likes of John Digweed, Sasha, Steve Lawler and Danny Howells and James continues to enjoy the support from these individuals to this very day. James has also worked with none other than Pete Tong in the studio, with the duo completing a remix of Wally Lopez for Pacha Records.
2006 has also been an outstanding year for James with Nic Fanciulli, Sander Kleinenberg and Fergie all choosing him as their breakthrough artist for the year in DJ Mag's Top 100 issue and IDJ magazine featuring James in their February issue in an article in which the magazine chose twenty prospects on course for great things in 2006. Further press in IDJ came in July, this time a full page spread in the 'Bubblin Under' section of the magazine in July in which the magazine again proclaimed James as one of the UK's hottest rising talents. And with future gigs at many of the planet's seminal club nights, numerous sensational productions due for release on world class record labels and the continued growth of his own Spoken Recordings who are we to argue!
"James Talk is without question one of the brightest new lights on dance music's horizon. Emerging last year, from Zabelia's Southampton based electronica gang, few new dj's have got off to such an impressive start. Juggling production, remixing and dj-ing from the start James epitomises what it takes to get noticed in the world of dance music. He is a man on a mission!" Pete Tong

Opnieuw een leuke programa in Clubxsession dit week end
1ste uur: Da fresh, een franse electro house Dj
2de uur: Kimito Lopez
"Born and raised in Oslo, Norway, the trance influences came pretty much naturally with the big wave in 1998. After listening to several tracks, mix compilations and hearing the excitement within the "taboo culture", the selection of a genre wasn't really hard at last.
Eventually after spending loads of hours enjoying the music, the next step was to be taken, and a pair of decks landed in the room. And a new local dj was to be found in Oslo.
Further time passed and one mix tape after another floating around in Oslo, club promoters gave him a break at smaller venues around the city. Despite that the trance scene was having some tight times.
January 2004 better times came along for both trance music and himself, as Trance Department was born. Being one of the masterminds behind the monthly club night that was going to gather the Oslo trance people again, sat his name further on the map. And along came a weekly show at one of
Oslo's biggest FM channels, Radio Oslo.
During summer 2004, Vascotia (Somatic Sense) decided to team up with the fast growing kid for a remix of no other than Dutch producer/dj Perry O'Neil. The first black plastic to set his name on, and not to be the last.
By the end of the year, Trance Department ended up by being nominated as "Club night of the year" by the official night guide in Oslo. As well as playing at different other clubs with big names such as Dj Ton T.B (Black Hole Recordings), 2004 was to judge a pretty nice year for the newcomer, and not least leaving a big door open for 2005.
With great expectations for 2005, it didn't start out with any disappointments. After spending more time in the studio with productions, good friend Paul Moelands aka Re:Locate/Octagen wants to team up for a remix for Fundamental Recordings. Remixing one of Israel's hottest artists, A Force wouldn't exactly destroy the start of the year. one week in Holland and the remix was completed. Due to a lot of studio time, DJ-ing wasn't pushed aside at all. Being selected as one of the residents at Intuition Radio ( www.etn.fm ) didn't exactly place him in a bad position either. As the show was re-broadcasted weekly at XFM ( www.xfm.nl ) in Holland.
Barely 2 months after the remix was completed yet another plane was to be caught down to the land of windmeels. This time for a gig at famous dutch club ASTA in The Hague ( www.asta.nl ). Playing alongside artists such as Misja Helsloot, Talla 2XLC, Kyau vs Albert, Menno de Jong, Estuera, Leon Bolier, Passiva, Stian Klo and Niklas Harding the Dutch label Intuition Recordings had its baptize in a boiling club on a excellent spring night.
2006 must be the most exciting year for Kimito Lopez as some of his solo productions is really setting the pace around the globe. His side project Xtranova, got picked up by Armin van Buuren and playlisted at A State Of Trance. A week later it was voted Future Favourite by the listeners. German top label Drizzly Recordings picked up the track with a Leon Bolier as massive support for the original.
Under the alias Black Plastic a more proggy side of the youngster is beeing showed, and Real Music made sure to pick up the track "Illusions" wich is set for a release later this year.
Fundamental Recordings has recently signed a trance bomb from Kimito Lopez, but
it won't be until later on this year the record will be revealed and released.
So with the rest of the year in front of his feet it won't be the last we see or for
that matter hear from this norwegian wizkid!

This week onze guest is Leama (of Leama & Moor)
Perfecto, Lost Language Electronica, Primal
Leama is the globally respected UK electronic melodic house DJ and producer responsible for several high profile original productions and collaborations which have propelled him to a top 50 positioning in the US URB Magazine DJ Poll and created the platform for a series of global tours taking the worlds leading dance floors by storm.
With early influences accredited to electronic music dignitaries Sasha and Laurent Garnier along with rock bands such as Pink Floyd / Tangerine dream , and taking great influence in music from films, Leama aims to create his own diverse yet universally appealing sound, combining elements of house, tech-house, deep electronic and nu- progressive along with ambient and breaks, summed up best by Leama as "electronic'' feel good music.
Beginning his production career back in 1997, early collaborations with Tilt , and Malcolm McLaren (sex pistols) were invaluable in setting the standard for the quality of his music, which is evident today both in his solo productions and as one half of melodic progressive house act Leama & Moor.
His production style uses subtle yet familiar ambient undertones, layering soundscapes and placing great emphasis on the importance of melody, which is projected on his debut solo production, 'Melodica'. At it's time of release the track became a particular favourite with maestros such as Sasha, Dave Seaman, Sander Kleinenberg and Paul Oakenfold, who featured the track on his highly successful 'Travelling' - Mix Compilation (Perfecto).
Whilst his joint venture with Tilt under the 'Odessi' guise named 'Moments in Space' gained equal critical acclaim and DJ support, the 'Matrix' based track rocketed it's way onto an impressive accolade of prestigious mix compilations including: Euphoria - Deep and Chilled, Dave Seaman's - Renaissance Awakeings , and Anthony Pappas Nu-Breed Mix on Global Underground.
Another project inspired by the silver screen was Leama's massive underground hit 'Requiem for a Dream', released in 2003 on Perfecto Records. The track went on to receive huge global support from the likes of Tiesto, Sander Kleinenberg and James Holden and found it's way onto several major compilations including Tiesto's - Nyana Mix CD , Paul Oakenfolds - Great Wall of China (perfecto) , and Ministry of Sounds - Trance Nation Future.
As a DJ, Leama has taken his unique sound to many of the worlds leading events including Muzika in Miami WMC, Pacha in Tel Aviv , MTV parties @ The Cross and Renaissance in the UK, whilst becoming a regular feature on the South American circuit with regular tours incorporating Argentina, Aruba, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico and Venezuela.
Whilst his iconic status amongst the elite of America's most respected artists remains strong, Leama's commitments closer to home remain equally impressive as Germany, Greece, Israel, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Finland and The Ukraine are amongst the nations toured by Leama.
With a heavy ongoing production schedule , 'leama' along with studio partner 'andy moor' have just released the long awaited debut album 'Leama & Moor - common ground' : featuring deep electronic film-score pieces and rocking dance-floor tracks. 'Common Ground' has already been compared to 'zero 7', ' massive attack', and 'ulrich schnuass' and been reviewed as 'Album as the year'. Mixmag also compared 'common ground' with BT's - IMA debut album.
2005 then saw remixes of Britney Spears - Someday (leama and moor remix), and Tiesto - A tear in the open (leama and moor remix) hit the shops and cause a stir , thus raising the global recognition of 'leama's involvment in todays scene.
Next up in 2006/7 are more collaborations (some already work in progress) and remixes of some high profile artist's plus a couple of new 'leama' singles, all of which will show the more diverse sound 'leama' has moved into.
"I really liked what i was doing with the early 'leama' productions and then the collaborations too, and even though I liked that kind of music, I have really moved into todays electroninc sound and performance more, but still combine those elements which make people feel like putting their hands in the air too. It's an exciting time for me, right now I am influenced from all kinds of music, from punky electronica to downtempo album music."
