Is music England's greatest export?

We all know them: The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Depeche Mode, New Order, the Cure, Faithless, Oakenfold, Sasha, Digweed, Stuart Price aka Thin White Duke, Spice Girls , etc...

It's certainly not their food.

There's more: Coldplay, Radiohead, the entire progressive house movement was attributed to the Brits.

I can think of no other export that has had such a global impact. Maybe you guys can.

The English language, the thing you speak on a daily basis, the letters on your computer screen, the language that a large portion of the world communicates in. I trust you've heard of it?

In modern times, I think Americans have more to do with the spreading of the language more than England. Non-native English speakers use far more American slang than British slang.

People are taught English from birth in the USA, Canada, Australia, South Africa, India and Hong Kong amongst other places because those nations used to belong to England. Americans would be spreading French across the world if it weren't for us.

However, I am very proud of my country's musical heritage, particularly in the last century. I wouldn't trade it.

England do two things damn well, and perhaps better than any other country - music and comedy.
