-- Mixers?
I'm buying a new mixer in the next few weeks and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions. My price range is up to about $300. And if anyone has one that they are willing to sell let me know about it..
for 300 bucks..
i recommend ya get something like...
Citronic MSX 1..
Gemini 626?
and if u can find a 2nd hand one..
vestax pmc 170 is quite nice if u can get for 300 bucks..
derez..
Well, I'd have to disagree with infinity when it comes to Citronic mixers ... I find them to be really bad ... very weak headphone out, and I don't like the general feel of it ... and do NOT buy Gemini mixers ... really bad quality.
But a Vestax PMC 170 would be a great choice ($299) , or you can take a look at the Stanton RM-Three ($279) which is exact replica of the PMC 170 ... also, look for the Vestax PMC 17 (the older brother of PMC 170) - they go for really cheap.
peace
I got the Vestax PMC 170 mixer and i really recommend u purchasing that mixer...its solid and fantastic and i love it. the neatest thing about it is the kill switches [which most of the top brand mixers do not have i.e pioneer]...you can do extra stuff and add shit to yer mixes with the kill switches. hehe overall its a great buy and worth every dime!!
I am searching as well... thanx 4 the info guyz!
I agree with Skywarp... don't buy Citronic, they are really over priced trash heaps.., headphone output is very crappy.. and if ya turn it up! it gets very distorted.. The gemini's.. ugg.. they are ok if you are just starting out and just want something to crossfade with.. but otherwise they are just total crap for quality..., I personally don't like vestax mixer's purely because they are a little expensive and it never sounds right when I crossfade between tracks.. Generally a good quality mixer.. I just don't like them personally.., Stanton Mixers and Numark Mixers.. though they are not as high end as the Vestax Mixers.. for $300, I'd grab the highest end numark or stanton mixer for sure.. something with optical faders.. But then again.. this is just me..
Optical faders are meant to be used for scratching, not for mixing since they have an extremely steep response curve (ie. you need to move the fader only a few millimeters to bring the channel in at full volume). So if you want to mix, stay away from optical. Most stanton mixers are scratch mixers too (same reason - very steep crossfader curve response) so you might want to try and mess around with the mixer for a little before you buy it - just to see if it suits your needs.

Yeah, when 300 is all you can spend, quality isnt going to be a big concern. I have a urei and a rane, both are rotary and both are the best mixers i have ever used. Never a problem, thats why i have a hard time with 300 for a mixer. I would hold on and save up a little more and go for a higher end product for around 500. Its like buying tables other than technics

Do you people actually know what you're talking about ??? You can get a very decent mixer for home use for UNDER $300 ... Or under $200 for the matter of fact. Ever heard of a Vestax PMC-17A ? The de-facto standard device for bedroom DJs, decent quality faders, all the features you need - including send-return loop for hooking up an effect unit. If you can't find it for that cheap then you're not looking hard enough.

My first mixer was a NUMARK, fairly cheap, lets face it, if your just learning to Dj or just planning on being a bedroom Dj my opinion is go NUMARK, your not running a club so you don't need a high end mixer, save your money and buy records.
Sod records, buy a Neve V series with flying fader automation, yours for only 1,000,000. Or a Sony Oxford.
Seriously, I've got a Gemini 626 and it's OK. It's got a fucking high noise floor but it does the job and feeds enough level to the headphones. I know they've got a reputation for blowing up but if you run it properly it'll be fine - I've not had a problem yet.
Stanton RM-3?
No way, dude.... You have to leave that option out.
I had that mixer and it sucks in several ways.
First, if you intend to use cross-fader, let me tell you that the fader curve is like this /-\, it dips in very steeply (fukin steep) when you move from channel 1 to 3. It kinda drops into the next channel just like that. It doesn't have any additional fader curve options.
Second, the knobs on the stantons are too close together. And the construction of the knobs are quite piercing too.
Pretty painful playing with them for a couple of hours.
Lastly, and probably, one of the most important features of all, the volume of the headphones. It is too damn soft under any conditions. Blast at full volume, I can still hear my dog fart.
I was very critical with this 'cos, I paid $$ for this shit and it turns out this way.
What I was impressed was the kill switches. Excellent to play with. And the sound quality. Sound quality is just awesome....
Try out before you buy, that is one mistake I learn from this mixer.
behringer dx-1000
dudesssssss what do you think of the Behringer DX1000?
Is it any good? I was thinking about buying it last summer. Instead I got the Numark DM1835X ( with beatkeeper)
Now I have found the BEhringer for an incredible price. So low that I was thinking there must be something wrong with it. Is there, guys? Because if there isnt I be down there tommorow to trade my old gemini ps626pro in for it.
I never use my beat counter so I thought why have one. If u can mix without one its much better.
Laterzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Behringer makes really good mixers from what I've heard. I never had one and the only time I got to mess around with one is at the store. The mixer seems really solid and is intuitive to use. The only thing you might not like is that the EQ knobs only go +/- 12 dB. If it is a brand new mixer then go for it ! If it is used, play with it as much as possible to see if there's something wrong with it. (By the way, why would you need 7 channels ?)

Thanx alot
its new yeah but I think I wont buy it cause i dont need it actually. I got a good mixer. I rather spend that money on something useful like a third deck yeeeeeeeeah especially because im suddenly buying techno and progr records.
I will buy the behringer next time orso when I need it.
