Questions not to ask

I just had a thought! Maybe we should be noob-proactive and make a "MUST READ: QUESTIONS NOT TO ASK!" sticky at the top of this forum that would outline questions such as:

- Hey guys, what software should I buy?
- Hey guys, what soundcard should I buy?
- I'm a noob, where do I start?! (2 of these already this week... and every other for that matter )
- How do I make a good trance bassline?

Furthermore, such a sticky would outline why these questions are totally unproductive and what measures can be taken to avoid self-retardation such as this. Eg. a "good" bassline is subjective; everyone has their own definition of a good bassline. Answers to a query like this would typically offer the OP absolutely no help whatsoever, so it is in the best interest of all. A question such as "how do I create the bassline in XYZ - ABC" provided with a sample is obviously a productive question, as it can actually be answered.

Thoughts?

All of us were noob's once! Who likes searching through posts when they can post a message?

The way of doing things changes so much so it's sometiems better to write a message.

If a person is really serious they will search it out, others will just ask the same questions that upset you guys so much

Nobody forces you to answer a post, plus its a public forum.

Firstly... because I want the content of this forum to be high quality, for my own personal gain.

Secondly... because it is also in the best interest of people making such posts. Example:

http://tranceaddict.com/forum/showt...3&forumid=48&s=
I guarantee you, hardly any of the replies in that thread were what he was looking for or needing.

In general actually, the forum has been pretty good lately! Around christmas it was a right mess of bs! I guess you get that with all the idiots that go and buy shit for christmas then realise they have no talent or persistence and give up.

Exception being rubez

RUBEEZZZZZZ

i mean...the first thing n00bs should be doing is using the search function and checking the master tutorial thread, in theory although this doesnt always happen. making a new sticky with quesitons not to ask is going to give them one more thing to distract from the master tutorial list or any other helpful threads.

just my 2 cts

This would be a good idea except for the fact that nobody reads any stickies. Ever.

Ban the stickies and bring on the dancing girls

honestly , is it really a big deal....I mean thats what these forums are for to help people out...don't get me wrong but the forums aren't getting that much traffic and a huge amount of posts...so let em post and whoever wants to help...well then they can help.

Just my opinion.

Posted by DjWikid on May-30-2007 18:05:

when people sign up, they should have to read and checkbox an agreement saying any noobish questions should start out...

NOOB QUESTION

So people can avoid tripping into these threads.
But those willing to help just jump right into them
Just a thought

You're being ironic, right? We already have a FAQ, and it has all of those questions.

The problem is that the people who continue to ask those questions have no interest in actually looking for the answer, which means they're not going to read anything, ever, except for responses to their specific query. There's nothing you can do about those people except flame them, ignore them, close their threads, or answer them (if you feel like wasting a lot of time).

It's just one step away from the jerks who post questions on Usenet and ask for people to send their replies by e-mail. Some people are simply lazy, inconsiderate, and/or stupid.

there is a faq post but a lot of newbies overlook it.

Exactly.

a lot of other forums(without naming there names) have archives on the top of the forum before you get to the posts.

for example if you want to know how to :
make melodies
Chords
Harmony
Theory
structure

or whatever its on the top of the page ,and if your a beginner you can just go there and have your questioned answered without making any post.

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Jun-05-2007 10:49:

Yeah, I wish we had something like that. Like a tutorial master list or something...

New people will always ask instead of looking at the stickies, its general human forum behaviour.

Posted by Uber Hypnotiq on Jun-05-2007 13:26:

This whole thread seems a waste..

I went pro-active with my sig. If one new person, JUST ONE, clicks there from my sig... then I've made a difference.

{turns volume up on triumphant orchestral piece, like from The Gladiator}

Isn't fruity loops a cereal? hahaha....just kidding.

I agree. My question is, should these people be tolerated? What is the preferred response? I ask because, hey, I've been treated quite nicely and learned a lot (most likely because i searched for answers first). I'd like to see this forum to continue being a resource on all levels. I also know it's not fair to press things on mods. Heck, I know i'm very new around here, but I'm willing to help out in any way I can, that is IF it's needed.
