King Canadian Dollar Power!

I haven't being paying much attention, but I see the Canadian Dollar up up to .93 US. Is the American dollar going to become North America's new Peso? (Just kidding of course).

Pfft... that's easy to do when you have an artificially controlled currency.

The Pound Stirling is a restricted currency. It's not traded freely. Your central bank keeps such tight controls on it they can more or less set it wherever they want.

Well at least I can go to Mexico and still buy a hooker for like 12 bucks, right?

yeah, as I thought It's been strong for a while now, but 2-3 years ago it was quite weak for a long period of time. The country though is suffering financially bigtime so I'm wondering what they'll do soon.

Quickest way to speed up the economy would be to lower interest rates and increase the amount of currency available on the money markets... get some foriegn investment going.... but then again you Brits seem to be a little afraid of foriegn investment.

When the Canadian dollar becomes equal to the US dollar Canada will officially lose it's manufacturing industy.

FYI, the growth in the Candian dollar vs. the US has much more to do with the fall of the US dollar then it does the strength of the Candian currency. Granted, demand for natural resources, of which we have a great deal, is up thus demand for our dollar is up; however, your dollar has fallen more then ours has increased. Once the US get's it shit together on foriegn affairs things will return to a more historically constant level.

No it's not. The pound was floated in the 70s. And using interest rates to peg a currency to another would be silly. The way a country pegs a currency is by buying the country's debt that it wants to peg its currency against. So for example China buys US treasuries.

Edit: oops sorry misread your statement on interest rates. But a central bank is not going lower interest rates if inflation is looming.

I don't know why everyone goes jurasic on that name. I read it as a pseudo-1337 speak for "promiscuous sex".
