Problems with My Virus Ti

Hello All.

I've been posting about this problem I'm having at virusti.com but as yet have had no helpful replies though I'm sure what I'm asking is not difficult to understand for people who know what they are doing.

So here goes. I'll try to keep it short

1)I'm using my Ti with Virus control in Ableton live 6.

2)Up till now I'm only using usb outs to send audio.

3)When I record I get sync/delay problems. I'm told that to get round this I should arm the D (direct monitoring) button, record straight through the analogue outs 1, then disable D button to go back to usb outs. This should solve sync issue.

4)I do this but hear nothing through analogue outs 1. So I try outs 2 and 3. With these I hear sound but nothing appears on meters in Ableton. When I record, clips are compeltely empty.

5)On Virusti.com, I'm told that using analogue outs will completely bypass whatever sequencer I'm using, hence no meter readings in Ableton.

So my questions.

1)If using analogue outs bypasses the sequencer, then how on earth am I supposed to record audio in ableton? I cant use USB as I get sync problems. I know people do record using analogue outs, thats what the Direct monitoring button is there for but if it bypasses sequencer then what am I supposed to do?

2)I hear sound with outs 2 and 3 but not 1. Does this sound like outs 1 are faulty?

My setup is PC with windows xp. My souncard is echo audiofire 4.

My producing has stopped at the moment

Please please help!!!!!

Cheers

Greg

Personally I'm confused as hell by ableton with the TI. Do you know how to activate usb stereo out 3+4? That would be helpfull thanx.

I had lots of sync problems using Virus control, but they seem to have disappeared when I updated to OS 2.05. I'd also like to know how to activate the second stereo output, haven't figured it out yet.

In the software, select a part.

Then go to the "Common" tab (the last one) and you should see in the top right corner the output box, with first and second outputs and a balance between them. Simply select USB2 as required.

Note, this resets when selecting a patch.

Or if it's an Ableton problem, then *shrugs* don't know, works fine in Cubase...

If it is, and you are still having issues; I can maybe have a look?

not sure how much this would help but have you:

1) Looked here: http://faq.access-music.de/?action=...at_id=001007003

2) Sent this question to Access Mailing List? http://www.ampfea.org/mailman/listinfo/access-list

3) Try posting this question to AMPFEA.ORG - many virus heads are frequenting that site (MS, M@, HS, BC).

hope this helps.

Yeah, but then what? I've tried that before but there isn't another channel in the mixer. I'm using Cubase too by the way.

I've sorted it now. Turns out I hadn't correctly set my "audio from" for the analogue outs. I was still selecting the VC track instead of my soundcard inputs. Pleased now as I can finally send two parts to different audio channels for individual mixing.

Incidentally, I tried using usb outs 3 and 4. I get no sound...

You should see them listed under "VST Instrument Channels". There should automatically be "VTI1" and "VTI2" as soon as you add in the VirusControl software.

Not sure, I don't use Ableton, only Cubase. Sorry.

Nope, I don't see it.

/EDIT
Nevermind, I figured it out. There's a dropdown menu in the VSTi window where you can activate additional channels.

No in the window where you add/remove/freeze VST instruments. I use Cubase 4 by the way. I think it was different in earlier versions, you didn't need to add the additional channels manually.
