4Mal-Grey Walls (4mal's electroacoustic ocean mix) w/ Z.O.E-You Need This Done To You (edit)
To kick off proceedings is a great little downtempo number by the consistent producers 4mal. Lovely natural soundscapes and acoustic guitar strumming in this. To help with the transition into the next track an ambient section was added at the end to provide a bit more depth to the sound.
Ljungqvist+Lansberg-Perhaps Another Time
I have been wanting to use this in my sets for a long time now. Beautifully chilled and serene stuff.
Matthew Adams-No More, Anymore! (elusive remix)
Continuing the slow, thoughtful opening to the mix is this wicked breakbeat track. Melancholic and uplifting at the same time, its a great interpretation of the original.
Joel Armstrong ft. Derek Kehler-Runaway Reject
The mix then explodes into life with this huge breakbeat track which blew me away from the very 1st listen. Melodic, energetic and featuring some really nice vocal talents; all swept along by some serious low-end!
Espen+Elusive-Albatross Confessions
Smooth and contemplative is how I would describe this track. Good use of a piano lead creates a very relaxing atmosphere.
Jay Lumen vs. Tobias Hoppe-One Moment(a dawn on the beach mix)
Maintaining the chilled ambience and smooth transitions now with a track that has steadily grown on me. Subtle melodies and a great atmosphere on this one.
Naveen G-Roots Grow Deep
The mix then moves into slightly darker territory but still retaining the melodic sensibilities. Great use of natural instruments in this track and a goosebump inducing melodic lead after the break.
Ray+Peter-Spacesuit
Spacey atmospherics in this record as the title suggests. Warm synths retain the flow as the mix introduces trancier elements.
Native ft.Ani-Transport (4Mal's whiteroad mix)
THis track signals an increase to the pace. A superb deep feel combined with one of those 'special' breakdowns.
Madoka-Distant Memories
A classic prog-trance record by Madoka as the trancier and darker tones grow. Really innovative use of the pitched vocals in evidence here.
Dale Anderson+Keenan-Promises
The mix now reaches its 'trance' peak with the track 'Promises'. Energetic basslines and a strong lead all provides a great melodic production.
Benz+MD-Dead Calm
To finish the mix is the kaleidoscope of melodies and brilliant bassline action of Benz and MD's 'Dead Calm'. A great, uplifting closer.

Any comments will be fantastic and greeted like mana from heaven b0$H

DOWNLOADING!

I gave this a proper headphone listen this morning as soon as I woke up. Love the flow, and the mixing is dead on. There are some great, long blends in here - just the way I like 'em.

Highlights of the mix for me were:

Jay Lumen vs. Tobias Hoppe-One Moment(a dawn on the beach mix)
Ray+Peter-Spacesuit
Dale Anderson+Keenan-Promises
Benz+MD-Dead Calm

The synths in Spacesuit reminded me very much of Emerson, Lake, & Palmer's "Brain Salad Surgery" album. I used to listen to that vinyl when I was growing up. Cheers again for this mix.

Wicked mate, glad it hit the right spot! The flow of the set is a very important consideration for me, so Im happy u got the feel of it. Luckiy these sort of tunes lend themselves quite well to long subtle mixing, which again doesnt disrupt the flow.

As for the 'spacesuit' track, I loved the warm spacey feel to it initialy, but wasnt to sure about the almost random synth hits during it, luckily it works and has really grown on me.

Cheers for taking the time out to listen and review, very interesting to hear peoples thoughts. Ta!

is it more proggy than trancey?

Id say its more proggy than trancey... Though all the progressive in the mix has trance sensibilities, i.e. melodic and emotional. The mix itself starts chilled and deep before flowing into more trancey territory.
Hope u like it mate

Posted by Slylee on Jun-06-2007 14:34:

i'll probably like the more chilled and deep part more. not a huge trance fan, but i do like a lot of chilled/melodic prog. haven't heard any for a while. i downloaded it last night, so i'll give it a listen tonight when i get home and let u know.
