Desk(what to buy/have built)

So i am in a really tight space now(6x8') my old desk doesnt fit, what do i do? The desk I am currently using is horrible, it causes a bunch of early reflections etc.

Sorry for the huge image. This is the space im working in.

Check out some of the products from Studio RTA. Their Project station looks like it might just be the right size for you.

Studio RTA Recording Stations

Nice products for those of us on a budget. I have two of their desks and I'm pretty happy with them. They all have some measure of rack space, so you'd have a good place for that MOTU 828 and Furman power conditioner.

Available at most major music retailers and a few non music ones as well.

Thanks of the heads up, ill look into those, I actually have a larger rack that holds everything i was just setting the speakers up to test acoustics, which lead me to purchase some real traps panels.

Personally, I would build it myself. Even those music-specific workstations often aren't ideal, not to mention they are expensive!

Best advice I can give you... if you want a PERFECT desk, get a LOW desk which is VERY deep (1m+).

Why low? Well, seeing as you've gone and bought some real traps you obviously appreciate good accoustics... but what is the point in absorbing reflections off the walls when you're getting hardcore ones off your DESK? Having your desk low and your monitors at normal ear level reduces this. Having your monitors sitting right on your desk is going to bounce frequencies back up at you and the speaker signal (comb filtering).

Why deep? Ideally you want to have your monitors ~ 90cm apart. Therefore you would have to sit 90cm from them. Hence, you wont achieve this on anything shorter! Now you're thinking "wtf? i'll just put them on stands", well, wheres your computer screen gonna go? RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE! So sound will be bouncing off the back of your screen.

Why build? No one makes 1m+ deep desks

How to build: 4 pieces of 35mm MDF, screw them together, voila!

Problem is the room is 6x8 and i have
this gear to fit

dbx 160a x's 2
Oberheim Xpander
Roland Jupiter 6
Sequential Circuits Pro-One
Oberheim OB1
Eventide Eclipse

+ a few other odds and ends....

Id love speaker stands, but no room.... I have to find some sort of way to position them on a desk....

I'm not telling you to put them on stands. I'm saying get a desk deep enough so you don't have to lol.
