Charity as a Sales Gimmick

Anyone else hate this lately? First there was children's day at McDonald's and now it's all over the place... Tim Horton's has some thing to send children to summer camp atm.

The worse is when you go to the theater and buy tickets. The random 17y/o ticket girl goes "Would you like to donate $1 to help kids fight cancer?" You feel like a total douche if you don't do it because there are like 20 people behind you, listening in, and it is freaking kids with cancer. I did it twice last year or something and now they're doing it this summer too! Last time I went to the theater, I was like "no thanks," and I turn around and get the evilest eye from the people behind me. Not to mention if you're on a date, that is the worst way to start it off. "I dont want to give $1 for the fucking cancer kids, I'm a selfish man-whore." pfft...stupid regal entertainment

hearing about children with cancer while going out to entertain myself would be a major turn off, especially when backed up by lamer than lame marketing tactics. Being shamed in public for it makes it even worse. If that happened to me, the theater would lose a customer. Damn, one reason for me being glad I've got my own home cinema.

I've worked with the Ronald McDonald house. I'd say it's pretty legit.

um, no. If that is, in fact, what they're putting the money into, it's legit and an excellent charity. They help out families whose children are terminally ill during the process, fyi

I call that marketing investment in public needs. Of course, it is good for the kids & their families. Great gold mine for McDo who can save millions in advertising. They don't give a shit about kids. It's all about the money in the first place.

Reduce your risk of getting cancer : don't eat mc food

you don't know what you're talking about, and it's offensively inane. Leave.

do you still believe in Santa Claus too ?

Have you ever had anything to do with this charity? Have you worked with them? Have you talked to them? Have you steped inside a facility where these kids play, eat, live? ...Didn't think so.

Even if it's only for the moola, the kids are still getting helped and at the end of the day that's what matters.

Von's is investing in getting your children fingerprinted and documented into the Big Brother monitoring system.

No, but there are people I'm very close to who've stayed there with their dying children. Kindly shut the fuck up and quit spewing ignorant, immature nonsense.

They poison the masses with junk, and I should invest my time to help them polish their image by working in health services ? No way.

hey wake up, the thread's title is.....

Like I said, good for the kids.

You're an idiot, and an asshole. Way to go.

plus I'm on a very bad case of the farts from hell right now..

Posted by shaw on Jun-03-2007 01:20:

would you rather they donated no money to charity, and did nothing for anyone?

then you could REALLY hate them.

Posted by Mmanu on Jun-03-2007 01:27:

If it wasn't them it would be some other company doing it. At the end of the day, of course it is about the children. Hell, I lost family members because of cancer too.

You didn't sense the ugly irony here. They give money to terminally ill kids on one hand, and poison kids on the other hand.
I just find that repulsive . That's a vulgar display of hypocrisy.

You have a bad case of, ' not thinking things through before I type" syndrome.

Maybe we can get Burger King to fund that charity.

Posted by all-nite-freak on Jun-03-2007 01:36:

I gave 50k to mira and 100 to the childrens hospital in montreal.
i'm getting a plaque where is yours bitch.

Posted by shaw on Jun-03-2007 01:37:

you shouldn't have done it. Someone else was going to donate it, anyway.

next time tell him:

1. god must have given those kids cancer for a reason, and far be it for you to interfere with his master plan.

2. a kid with cancer once stole your wallet so you no longer donate to that charity as a matter of principle.

3. your a Darwinist.

4. you're collecting for kids with down syndrome. then ask how much he'd like to donate.
