I gotta give a speech Tuesday on Iraq War. Some questions
I gotta give a speech in class on Tuesday. it's suppose to be on a controversial issue, I chose the Iraq War. I noticed you guys talk a lot about politics here. I have to cite 10 historical sources (2 books, 2 mags, 2 newspaper, 2 internet and 2 whatever). I was wondering if any of you can point me the right way? Im doing massive research right now, but I have to alot of digging and it's very time consuming.
The speech is only on the historical aspect, my main goal is to bring the listeners up to the pros and cons of the speech, which is another speech im giving on friday!

hmm maybe these:
getting the troops in or out of iraq?
should we be having this war or not? < is what I like
yeah... I realized it was broad, but my professor didn't think so. I gotta give 3 speeches 1 historical (5 mins), 1 prons/cons (5 mins) and 1 persuasive speech(8 mins)

Originally posted by MisterOpus1 Okay, we'll go with those two topics. Couple more questions - which one of these speeches do you have to give on Tuesday? And if you're speaking in terms of controversy, which "side" of the controversy will you be proposing?

Originally posted by Dilmeet I have to give the historical one on Tuesday. I can't tell any members of the class which side I'am on until the 3rd speech (persuasive, which is 2 weeks from now). This looks good: Subject: Iraq War Topic: War or not?

Originally posted by Fir3start3r I think I'd break it up into Pre / Post Saddam and choose one; there's certainly lots of juicy ways to slice each. I'd stay away from anything too ambagious as it could stray from discussion and especially if you're ending with a persuasive speech. There's LOTS of opinion and logic from all angles (MisterOpus1 is right, this topic is huge) so pick one you feel comfortable with and go with that.

Originally posted by MisterOpus1 Okay, again even this subtopic you've chosen can explode into a monster summary of events, but try to keep it simple and quick, especially in a 5 minute crunch. I hate to throw two giant volumes of work at you, but these two reports are probably the best place to start: 1. The 9/11 Commission Report: http://www.9-11commission.gov/ -which can be used as either a book, website, OR "whatever" citation (I'd probably go with the book citation considering that's probably the hardest to get through). 2. The Duelfer Report on Iraq WMD: http://www.lib.umich.edu/govdocs/duelfer.html These two reports give the most comprehensive review of Iraqs WMD stockpiles, proliferation (or lackthereof), and overall threat as well as how we handled (and mishandled) those threats in the 1990's and past our invasion. The importance is this was our primary rationale for invasion by this Administration, the secondary rationale being al Qaeda connections (which both reports addresses i.e. "no operational ties"). Another site of interest is Wikipedia, which you MUST at all costs examine with a grain of salt and verify all sources yourself since it's not a definitive (and often purely opinionated) source. Quick google came up with this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq_Resolution Here's another: http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.ph...olution_of_2002 Sorry so brief. Gotta run for the night. I'd also consider using the "search" function in these forums for the topic as well. Again my apologies for this. Sounds like you're on a pretty tight deadline. Best of luck.
start with a little recent history.

Originally posted by Fir3start3r I would rename that to, "The War in Iraq" rather than the, "Iraq War" unless you're choosing the time period that Saddam was still in power? Iraq isn't at war with anybody
hehe this is still undergrad!
