SoundExchange is keeping royalties from EDM artists; we can help
SoundExchange is an organization that is supposed to collect royalties and distribute them to artists. However, SoundExchange has a "Missing/Unpaid Artists" list of artists that they supposedly cannot find. Those artists cannot collect their royalties until they contact SoundExchange. If the artists on the list don't claim the royalties that they are due by June 30th, SoundExchange will take the unclaimed money and use it for the company (the artists will not be able to get their royalties).
Here is the list.
I found out about this here. There is a lot of info to read on the topic.
There are a lot of EDM artists listed. Just a couple that I saw while scrolling:
AK 1200
Ayla
Colette
Dieselboy
DJ Icey
Dubtribe Sound System
Frankie Bones (!)
Greece 2000
Grooverider
At least we can do something about this. All we have to do is get in touch with these artists to make sure that they claim their funds before 6/30. It takes a minute to Google up e-mails for most of these artists, and another to write a quick message. You can use this as a template:

Dear (artist), I just noticed that you are on SoundExahange's "missing artists" list for royalty payment. This means that they cannot give you the royalties that you deserve because they supposedly can't find you (even though I could get your e-mail address after a minute on Google). Please contact SoundExchange ASAP, because after June 30th all of the undistributed royalties will not be available for you anymore. Here is the "missing artists" list: http://plays.soundexchange.com/jsp/unpaidArtistList.jsp (your name) |
so how do you get the royalties?
Kraftwerk is on the list! WTF
FatJawa: I'm guessing that you have to contact SoundExchange to receive your royalty check. The majority of artists that are due these royalties are already registered within their database; its the artists that don't have their contact info with SoundExchange that are going to be losing their money.
The thing that gets to me is that SoundExchange claims that its doing what it can to find all of the artists that are due funds, yet they can't spend a minute on Google to find Dieselboy's email address. What a bunch of hypocrites...
Anyone?
I know it would suck if I was one of the artists on that list and I wasn't getting that money because of some fuck-up who couldn't bother to find my MySpace...
Frankie Bones posts at the discogs board.
So long as no-one contacts Dieselboy...
SOMEONE CALL MASE!
