-- Effects?
Effects?
There aren't too many threads about this so I thought I'd start a new one.
I've recently bought a new mixer (a Vestax PMC-55) and I want to play with some effects now.
Does anyone in here use EFXs, Kaoss Pads or some other effects in combination with their mixer? I'd like to hear some opinons on the different units.
I've got a DJM-400 with some built in effects and also Torq for a software solution. I love the 400 for the quality (EFX500/1000 quality) but I love Torq's effects for the customization. I wish the DJM 400s effects weren't all LFO style though, but that's what I use my midi controller and Torq for when I need it, among other things.
You shouldn't get too caught up in effects. I own a DJM800 and I only really use the effects to keep myself occupupied between mixes once I've sorted out my levels and beatmatched.
When I actually perform a mix I rarely touch them, I think it's important to let the music speak for itself, it's rare that an effect will actually add something better to a track, and if it does then you've chosen the wrong tracks.
That said - a little subtle use (emphasis: subtle) never harmed anyone.

I don't really agree on that. If the mix is already perfect, added effects and tweaks to the tracks will only add to the excitement.
Perhaps I should have said that I'm not in the learning phase anymore, been DJing for 7 years.
