Whatever happened to progressive breaks?

Seemed everybody was playing it in 2004, stuff like disk 1 of Anthony Pappa's Balance CD, most of Involver, but now its been pushed aside in favor of more minimal/electro sounds. I miss those lush soundscapes progressive breaks was known for... Digital Witchcraft, Benz and MD, etc. What happened to it, and are there any producers/DJs actively caning the style?

Proton Music has quite a lot of breaks in their catalog, they recently released Stefan Anion - Orion's Belt (The Emissary Remix), a brilliant breaks remix of an equally brilliant original track. Stefan Anion has some sweet breaks releases on other labels as well.

there are still some progressive breaks, you just have to look harder. they have a few on beatport but you have to look through the breaks section.

i found some recent ones that i liked

dana bergquist - mcenroe
no context - anti skate

there are more but i cant remember.

also if you havent heard of him, check out Orchid. He is my favorite and has a few releases on hope, source of gravity, gravitation and silver planet records. His music is like melodic progressive breaks, some of the best stuff i've heard. his collaboration with narcose are pretty good too.

There is also some nice prog. breaks on Toes In The Sand (The Scrubz - That Feeling (Royal Sapien Remix) & (R.S. Electro-Free Edit), Rasti Tkac - Sparkling Inspiration (Rasti's Edanna Mix)) and Arctic Wave (Coldfish - Cycles, 8 Weapons). And Junk Science - Troll (Sean McClellan Breaks Remix) is also a very good track

It faded out of the spotlight but it's still around.

Derek Howell just released a set of new tracks. He's always been one of my favorites in the genre.

yeah, makes me sick. although there are some great 'electo' djs out there. seems like everyone is playing it. just a fad.

Yeah, it doesnt seem like prog breaks will get a revival. Even perhaps the most prominent prog break dj, Jonathan Lisle, has moved away from the scene and doesn't play it anymore

I havent heard anything good since 2002/2003 to tell u the truth. Some of my favourite from that time are:
Medway & Sean Cusick - Columns of Clouds
Jono Fernandez - Colours of Conscience (Original Mix)
All early luke chable breaks productions
