Are really the Sony Mdr-v6 the best Headphones out there?
Plain question, after a lot of research..please post your opinions!
..and compare with other good ones such as the Mdr-V700DJ or the Sennheiser HD 280 PRO.
Posted by Werewolf on Apr-12-2002 22:21:
plain answer: yes
I can't compare, 'coz the only headphone I have is mdr-v6...
Posted by El~ZaPo on Apr-12-2002 22:45:
I also have it and it is great.
All you V700DJ lovers, don't even bother posting in this thread

Its just that this has been discussed repeatedly in the Dj section.

Sennheiser HD600, enuff said.

The HD280's blow the 700's away but the mdr-6's beat the senns if ya dont mind not being able to swivel your headphones.

Technics RP-1210 DJ Headphones
Blows your V6 and blows your Sennes

In my opinion you can't give a clear answer to this question. It's matter of preference, what you think is the best, won't necessarily be the best for someone else. It's like asking what's the most beautiful color in the world, there will always be different opinions.
I own both the RPDJ-1200 and the Sennheiser HD-25. And they both have their advantages and flaws. The HD25 sounds crispier than the RPdj, but then again the Technics blocks away external sounds way better.

hi
I did headphone shopping earlier and wanted the MDR-v6's but availability was slim and it would have cost me and arm and a leg
I paid 140 CND for my V700's and I love them
but that is not to say if I could get the others cheaper that I wouldnt give them a chance just that it was convenient for me to get the other ones
Posted by mute79 on Apr-13-2002 17:08:
i have both 280's and v6's... and i'll just say i dig v6's way more, even without all the swivelin motions and such

How about, "All you V700DJ SCEPTICS, don't even bother posting in this thread"?
I've read TOO TOO many mdr-v700-bash-a-thon threads where most of the sceptics there probably haven't even tried them. I think that those who bash v700's are really people who would secretly love to have them but can't for some reason or another.

But anyway:
Sony MDR-V700DJ is great
Sony MDR-V6 (or V7506) is great
Sennheiser HD-280 is great
.
.
.
MANY headphones are GREAT!
It's really a matter of personal preference. I myself love the sound of the v700's, and ADORE their looks!!!

Of course, if you REALLY want to be picky, I guess you could say that the V6's have more "accurate" sound (i.e. not as much exaggerated bass), but in the end it really boils down to a matter of personal taste. Nothing more, nothing less!
I recommend that you find and visit a store in your area that has a headphone rack where you can try them out and hear each one for yourself. In Toronto, Bay Bloor Radio is a perfect example of this (though recently half of their headphone rack has been empty for some reason - if you go there, yell at them to replenish the rack!).
Just do not, do NOT go out and buy a pair of cans SOLELY on the basis that the "audiophile" so-and-so on such-and-such a forum said they were good (or a very good friend of yours - no matter how much you trust him or her). Likewise, don't rule out a pair of headphones solely on the basis that said "audiophile" or friend said they "sucked." Try them out first, THEN decide. And try out many different headphones so that you can compare and get a feel of what sounds "good" and what "doesn't." It could very well happen that there are a pair of headphones out there that 99% of people you ask say they suck, but that you find to be extraordinary! In that case you would buy those, and tell those other people to fuck off and let you enjoy your music. That's what I do to people who bash my v700's.
Believe me, what "sounds good" is a quality that only YOUR ears can determine, not anyone else's. What you think sounds good may sound like crap to someone else and vice versa.
And I mean really try them out! Put them on and listen for 15 minutes, see if they are comfortable. If you are planning on using them for DJ'ing, try out various positions and see how the headphones stand up.
As in any area of life, to get the best results, you have to exert yourself and do some research!

Alccode, does bay bloor radio have sennheiser hd280's that you can try?
Posted by 8Wonders on Apr-13-2002 21:50:
What!!
HD600 is THE top headphone on the market, nothing tops it, period!
Forget the 280's or anything lower, 600 all the way. If you can afford them.

No, I already tried. They have lots of nice ones, but apparently the HD280's aren't sold in Canada. The guy said they could do a special order, but it would cost $400 CDN!
They didn't have any V700's, but the other Sony DJ headphones sound really nasty. Very murky sound, weak bass.

HD600 is WAY open, so you'll hear too much outside noises, and (if you have the volume loud enough) they leak too much of their sound, too. In fact, open-air headphones are less than ideal for DJing, due to those facts plus the fact that if you turn up the headphone up loud enough to hear anything whatsoever over those f**king monitor speakers, the headphone loudness would be so loud that they'll blow your eardrums within seconds.
Of course the HD600's are outstanding headphones - for listening to music, and even then only from a great amp with a strong headphone jack (most headphone jacks from mixers are mediocre at best).
As for me slamming the V700DJ's, you think I've never heard them? Well, I HAVE heard them... and the sound from them is not for me.

Yeah, the people at Bay Bloor can sometimes be moronic. Last I was there (last week), half of the headphones there were gone, including the v700's, as testified by DamnDirtyApe. They had some nice higher-end Grado and Sennheiser ones on display, but they all averaged $200+.
Michael Russo, I don't recall seeing the HD280's, and if they're not available in Canada, then....damn...
Well, ordering online could work? I'm sure you could find a good price. Certainly better than Bay Bloor's - they tend to charge the full retail price.

I wasn't pointing to anyone specifically.
I'm glad that you have at least decided *for yourself* that the v700's are not for you, instead of taking someone else's words at face value. Great!
If they're not for you, they're not for you. That's all that matters.

there is a sticky thread for headphones dedicated to this type of discussion...
Posted by Great Outdoors on Apr-14-2002 20:35:
I know I'm going to get a lot of stick for this, but I own the V700DJs, and I must say that the people here were right about one thing: the treble is way too distracting for DJs. I still love them, though, because it's closed and I can get a clean cut from the outside sound, and I keep thinking to myself that if I can mix well with so much treble, I will have no problems with better headphones. Always train with lousy equipment (I don't own Techs) so that you'll become better when a real gig comes.
Posted by Michael Russo on Apr-14-2002 23:03:
There are very good online prices for the hd280's... but I was hoping I could try them out... I guess I'm just gonna blindly order them.
