Sander van Doorn gives away a freebie!

Dont we all just love the word FREE! Whether its at Tesco, drinks tickets, guest list or other. The word FREE is just damn attractive.

Well, its come to the attention of van Doorn HQ that someone has pressed up a load of Sander van Doorn white labels and is making a profit from it. The track in question is over 3 years old, was never released by anyone related to Sander van Doorn, and obviously with that being the case, never profited from it. Sander made this track for his own purposes, whilst experimenting with a new studio, and thats where the story ends. And so it with great alarm that someone feels they have the right rake some money in now!

If you have picked up a copy of Sander van Doorns personal take on Technotronics Pump Up The Jam, then take it back now and demand a full refund. It is currently doing the rounds at a number of stores in the UK, and can be bought online for near to 6.

To show the thief we mean business, were going to give the track away for FREE. All you need to do to get your copy is to go to Sanders MYSPACE, and download it. The track will be available from Thursday 7th June.

By the way, this Press Release was FREE, as was the artwork! Its all about FREE FREE FREE.
The address is www.myspace.com/sandervandoorn

If you're not a friend, be one now!

Go get it THIS THURSDAY.....FOR FREE!

It'd be nice, for a change, if a producer actually gave something away for free that was worth having. That's not been done in a while.

Load of shit.

It'd be nice if the artists remembered why they started doing this in the first place, yeah? You know, when they did it because they loved it instead of making music that will sell instead of music that means something more to them, yeah? Having fans support you with money is one thing, being lucky to have a hobby/passion that got you somewhere and bitching about not making money for it is another.

Music has been around for as long as humans, and it's only relatively recently that people began to be paid for it. Music is more than just a "job" and it's a damn shame that a lot of people don't seem to realize that.

Get a grip you dick head, that's a completely different scenario.

Or read what idoru said if you want the politer version, yeah?

You guys seriously have got to drop the whole "REMEMBER WHY YOU GOT INTO MUSIC!!!" stuff. I don't see any of you offering to work free for a day, even if you love work.

How many here started their job as a hobby?

I have, actually, so thanks for the assumption.

Also, there's a great deal of difference between a hobby and a job. A hobby is something that you love doing, that you spend most of the money you make from your job on. A job is something you do to earn money that (more often than not) isn't something you're all too fond of (unless it's a career). Can the two be combined? Sure. But a hobby such as music isn't going to make you that much money unless you're incredibly famous. In fact most of the time, the job that you had before you became famous will end up earning you more cash than selling some EPs.

You're welcome?

Honestly Jake, what would you do in Sander's situation?

I'd probably be holding down another job while I did all of that. Something part-time where I worked a few days during the week and then traveled on the others. I wouldn't be worried about paying bills just from my music career, I wouldn't be worried about making enough money from my music and I certainly wouldn't be advertising a free piece of my music with "FREE" plastered all over the place.

I'd put a very sizable portion of my work up for free download. Music, to me, has a far greater meaning than cash flow. If people like what I produce, if they can dance to it if it's danceable or chill to it if it calls for it, then that makes me happy. Hell, I spun my first gig at a mostly empty 16+ gig, and of the 10 or so people that were there only two of them "understood" Tech House. The rest of them grooved to it but were confused at certain points. It still made me incredibly happy and satisfied to know that I made those people dance. How much did I get paid? Nothing, and I don't care (even though the size of the attendance warranted nothing). No amount of money that could ever be given to me at any point in my life (unless I'm homeless) will ever amount to the feeling of knowing that what I was doing was making a couple of people have a great time.

That's all that I'm in it for, and I know that that's all that you're in it for. Would it be nice to make some extra money from it? Hell yeah it would! What do you think I am, fucking crazy? But am I going to sit there and expect that people give me cash or whine about people downloading? No. Am I going to sit behind my synths and decks and say, "Well, I need more cash so I should water-down this stuff and make it sell more"? No.

If I was in his position most of my music would be free. The amount of income from record sales is so minute it's not even funny. The only income for me would be from gigs, and even then I wouldn't expect to be paid thousands upon thousands of dollars. If I was traveling day after day then yeah, I could probably make a decent living off of it. But if I was only traveling on the weekends, then I would hold down a part-time job. That wouldn't bother me one bit, because I'd still be incredibly content with being able to make a crowd of people happy.

heres an idea. only listen to artists who refuse to make money through their art, you'll end up listening to better music anyways.

Well then at least part of his full time job should be to produce a decent track.
