Question Any runners in the c0re?

Well, I'd like to start running/jogging. Any tips you guys can give me to help me get and stay motivated, how long I should be running for when I first start, etc...stuff like that.

Motivation is really the biggest thing...help me get in the zone!

don't run on a treadmill, and run with someone else.

No no, god no treadmill. I'll definitely be doing it outside, in my neighborhood. Dunno if I can find a partner though. :/

My old high school is just down the street, I'd like to work up to being able to run laps on the track.

Best invention ever. If you don't have a running partner this is perfect. Bonus is that you dont need the 'special' Nike shoes. Its very easy to make a pouch to tie in with your shoelaces.

don't do this

i run in the early morning, it makes me feel better both emotionally and physically for the day.

consistency is also a big factor, which is why i do it in the morning. If you miss one day, it just gives your head all the more reason to "do it tomorrow"

I run nine miles a day, three days a week (and have a hell of a blister to show for it). I don't really know what to tell you to keep you motivated other than to say that after the initial pain, you'll really start to enjoy it. It's kind of fun lengthening the run and trying to get quicker.

you don't need a partner.
stretch good before, do a cool-down (walk a little), and stretch after.
go for distance, before you go for speed.
make sure you are hydrated ahead of time.

Hmm, yeah I definitely need tunes. I should ask the bf to get me an ipod.

Yeah I was thinking I'd try to do it early in the morning too.

Wicked, thanks. That's actually good advice, I'd always wondered how runners do it without having water bottles with them.

Not the ipod. It is the sport kit:

The Sport Kit2 allows your Nike+ shoe to talk to your iPod nano. The sensor uses a sensitive accelerometer to measure your activity, then wirelessly transfers this data to the receiver on your iPod nano.

You can set goals and it will talk to you (man or woman voice. I prefer the woman). Set your pace, set your distance etc. Now if only she told me she was wet and waiting for me I would run like hell.

Running is bad for your knees, make sure you run on something soft like dirt or grass! Concrete and asphalt will kill your knees!

i find the ipod with some banging musik always helps.

focus on your long term goal (be it to lose weight, get more toned, feel healthier, etc), not just on arriving at the end of the run. Also, visualisation is important. When it gets hard and you're struggling, being able to picture the benefit of doing the hard slog will motivate you to get it done rather than simply give up.

take regular breaks, maybe a couple of mins here and there, and yes hydrate well.

if you run into a seedy area then you're guaranteed to increase your sprint tenfold.

Ahahah, yeah but I still need the ipod! That's really sweet though.

Therein lies the problem, not enough areas of softness to run on. I'll just deal with my knees being in pain. My father has been running since his twenties and he's still moving relatively well and never complains about his knees. It's mainly if you overdo it when you get problems. Which I'm close to overdoing it.

with good running shoes, you'll be fine.

it's not like your ruck-marching, fast-roping, or parachuting.

Maybe better athletic shoes would help?

Maybe, or a more supportive sports bra.

felching is where a guy cums in a girl's ass and then puts a straw inside and sucks it back out? yeah?

Why is a treadmill so bad? I'm asking because I run on one.

Posted by VAR on Jun-06-2007 00:59:
