Review for Ferry Corsten at Sky bar
First 1.5 hours of music had some great tracks of the softer variety, hard trance lovers must have hated it.
Venue was nasty, wayyyyyy too packed, random sky Bar crowd.
Near the DJ booth was deadly, could not move, and took 10 minutes to pass through 40 feet of people.
Not a horrible night, got to hear some good tunes and hang out with some good friends. I am sure some will disagree, and sure some will think it was great.
i had a good time. good looking crowd. people were eating up the beats.
pics up soon
liked the idea of the skybar - lots of fresh air no oppressive heat - but the sound system was pretty damned crappy - maybe cuz of noise laws? all i know is my ears arent ringing AT ALL! lol
seen ferry a bunch of times already in toronto and will always be a fan but to be honest was extremely disappointed tonight. his set had next to no flow, there was no progression or build up into harder, faster trance as the night wore one, and what the hell was he doing busting out tracks from 2002? at 240am he was still playing beats of maaaaybe 125bpm -- maybe im getting to used to the harder trance but i would have wanted something to really get the blood flowing at 3am
i mean honestly i think we have all heard punk and digital punk MORE than enough times (and the fact that he remixed it AGAIN and called it junkie for the new album is pretty ridiculous imho)
pretty weak set all in all - crowd was a good crowd had fun but felt my eyes drooping at 215 from the lack of energy in the music - dunno maybe i was expecting too much from ferry?
took some pics on my nokia n80 and a video...some came out more than decent ill try to post them tomorrow somewhere and link em
when did the party end?
Overall not so good night....
Someone wanted to beat me up after ? some dude in a converatble followed me and told me to pull over ..
for some reason sketch factor was thru the roof.. and i did hardly anything!

it really was an odd night for me now that i think of it :P haha
ehhhh i dunno what to really say
what made my night was pretty much the people i was with....always have a blast with them no matter how good or bad the party is, so if it werent for them it'd be a total shit night for me
i was looking forward to this night for a long time, and have to admit i was kinda disapointed
opening dj played some bomb tracks but i swear the sound cut out at LEAST 8 times during that hour that i counted alone, it was a total buzz kill, just when i was getting back in the mood and dancing it would cut out again! fuck
it was pretty packed but i've been in worse situations, i came to the event expecting it'd be packed anyways so i wasnt too upset about that
not a lot of people dancing either, lots of "look at me im sexy" type of ppl which i heard is common for skybar during saturdays as well
corsten played a good set in my opinion, lots of tracks i wanted to hear (even though it was obvious he'd play them lol), kinda off on his flow like mentioned
i just could not believe that they shut down at exactly 3am...i seriously looked at my cell and couldnt believe when i saw 2:58am
i KNEW i should've went to see him at dragonfly last night, but i had such high hopes of having a magical skybar set with ferry and he only played 2.5 hours...

Oldies = GOOD TIMES!!!!
Madagascar
Gourylla Goureylla
Galaxia 2005
Dooms night
...thats all for now.. when we think of more we'll get back to yous
p.s. fuck it ending at 3a.m.
Dee
I have to say that was by far one of the worst nights i have had at skybar in a long time the sound system kept messing up and was totaly throwing off the vibe, the place was so so so packed with no room to dance. MO played good, the first hour and half of Ferrys set wasen't doing it for me at all it was MEH! ... he picked it up in the second half and saved the night for me, overall he was good
What made this night was definatly my freinds and all the TA's can't go wrong with good friends and good tunes <3 !
well...i was looking forward to this night for quite some time- all i have to say is even though the skybar is amazing- it should have been inside somewhere- more room- better sound- and it could have possibly went past 2:58 am- ferry started off quite slow, but definitly picks it up a notch or three- the friends i was with made the night- we found this nice little TOTA corner...where we all united, sneakers and all! the vibe was decent, quite a few "look at me i'm beautiful" people, but hey, it is the skybar and it is to be expected-
will need to see ferry again, because this wasn't the best ferry party i've been too-
i'm out
ps. nada- you fkn' rock!

I'm hurtin like a mofo
going to work now with 2 hrs shut eye
will write a review later
I had fun but it should have been inside the Koolhaus!! crowd was bizarre last night like woah but my ppl made my NIGHT and Ferry would have sounded better to all of us if the shitty sound was not so shitty fuck!
I will not go to a trance party on the skybar again unless its a private party and controlled entry....peace out for now
Chris WE ROCK!!! <3
the tunes were great i thought honestly....it was good to hear feel free (2007) and breakfast - the sunlight
im REALLY pissed it ended at 4... i was expecting at least 4 or 5....
like everyone else said, the friends made the night
but...Higlight of the night: Catching Eddie Halliwell outside guv exchanging couple words and a handshake lol.....Dmitri that guy looks like Halliwell....
Hahahahahaha, it fucking sucked. Definitely not worth thirty dollars for his two hour set, IMO.
he played 3.5 hours at dragonfly good thing i went to dragonfly instead and he was playing harder 140bpms for sure at dragonfly
First time spending the whole night at SkyBar (and probably my last).
- Sound sucked
- Music was alright (I've never been a big Ferry fan)
- I enjoyed myself
- Nice seeing a few peeps that I haven't seen in a while.
GOURYELLA = HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT
I seriously couldn't put my arms down! Seriously, they cramped up!
Was also nice to hear Feel Free 2007 Galaxia and Madagascar, from what I remember now
I had a good time personally. Ya, the sound was absolute piss off, but it just meant more time to talk with whoever was around since I couldn't enjoy the music. I thought there was a great vibe last night and I noticed it right away. Everyone was smiling and friendly, except at some points... Lisa, WTF was your prob last night? Twice you turned to me and just snapped saying, "Don't talk to me!". Fuck, I understand Ferry is on, but it's not like I was chatting your ear off. It was just plain rude the way you said it, and I was really put back.
Moving on, Ya, I was upset the night ended so fast, but I understand the bylaws and whatnot, 3am is extremely late for the old foggies (myself not included
).
The people definatley made the night though! Was so pleased to start to see familiar faces now, it really does get ya wondering through the dancefloors and different parts of the bar to hang out with new/different people all the time
So really no complaints, besides having to walk 45mins home for the first time, to see actually how far away from my house I was... I was a bit scared and nervous at first.. but it doesn't compare to E. Hastings... so it made my walk a little more comforting
Oh, and btw, I came home and spun for about 2-3 more hours and played allll these seriosuly Old-School trance tracks that I haven't heard in many many years! If anyone wants to hear it, lemme know, cause they don't play shit like that anymore!

Although I think the idea of seeing a big DJ spin on a rooftop patio downtown seems pretty cool at first, it just doesn't work. Unlike other rooftop patios say like Space which are totally constructed to provide good clear sound, Skybar just isn't. I think on a regular night with the locals up there its fine and serves its purpose as an overflow escape when the main rooms get too hot but is just not setup to handle a headliner like Ferry and the masses that come out even on a Thursday to see him spin.
You just can't have an event like that in a space like that where there is way too many obstacles all over the place and the whole idea of bottle service up there is ridiculous - it eats up so much space that could be used to dance and walk around.
All in all, Ferry made the night and was great to hear some good tunes dropped. Also very cool to see Halliwell out and mingling during Ferry's set. Mark dropped some good tunes as well but I think his levels were a bit high and the system kept cutting out which was annoying.
Don't think I'd go for another big DJ event up there - it was just too much of a pain trying to get around and being constantly shoved and pushed didn't help much either. Would much rather see the top DJ's play the main room where the sound is much better and does their set justice and also more room to move around and dance.
Didn't really mind the 3am shutdown (which I had a feeling was going to happen since it was a Thursday) as I needed to be at work first thing and am now paying the price for running on 2 hours of sleep.
Still it was good to be out and hear some good tunes on a Thursday night. I'm glad the weather held up and was actually nice through the whole night.
Wow what a turn of events.
I guess as I get old and wiser I begin to trust my instincts more.
Was hoping to do the old candy at 1AM party to 4AM thing, but instead opted for plan B.
Have a few drinks and dance with the music.
Mark Olivers set was a great track selection, but the speakers cutting out through out put a damper on that.
Ferry dropped a good set, I was soo cheesed that it was over at 3:11AM.
That could have been on looong cab ride home.
Skybar was not as rammed as I had expected, so I had a good time over all.
Next stop Meno de Jong..
btw, how long did he spin Wednesday at Dragonfly?
