More news Regarding the tearing down of Axis+Avalon in Boston
http://www.edgeboston.com/index.php...es&sc3=&id=4689
I know there's already a thread about this... Not sure how many people know though
Embassy I couldn't care less about, but Avalon and Axis are surely going to be missed by many.... RIP
Avalon, rest in piece
seriously though
oh wow
Avalon-Boston was one of the better clubs I've been to
as for the baseball fan, more places to hang out before going to Fenway!
Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino also released a statement in support of the Lansdowne Street overhaul. "This project will further place Boston in the forefront of the live music entertainment industry," Mayor Menino said. "Im excited to see Lansdowne Street getting the facelift that it deserves. The addition of this new music venue will enliven the ever-popular entertainment district."
Sounds like Mr. Mayor is pretty out of touch. Since when is the reduction of two music venues into one something positive for the live music entertainment industry?

Armin @ Avalon (April 2006) - one of the best parties in my life.
Avalon RIP
haven't been to avalon in quite some time now but it was the start of it all for me. I used to do a guestlist for saturday nights and sometimes fridays. I used to sneak in when I was 17/18 years old. I loved going to the trancey nights at first (the gateway drug for me) and rocking out to PVD, Digweed, Sasha, etc. I miss those days with the sick laser they had and really cool themes (which have been gone for years now).

all the real new underground talent coming to boston has been going either to the phoenix landing in cambridge or to rise at times. Sometimes there have been special events such as the ones at revolution rock bar and goodlife downtown as well. Avalon has been booking the big cheeseball names only for awhile now. The underground scene left avalon 3 or 4 years ago. I miss when they'd have acts like Together and Cassius @ avalon and frequently had sasha and digweed. It's been a year since Digweed and over 2 years since sasha has last been around. The used to have much better bookings but boston only comes out for the AVB, Tiesto, PVD, Oakensuck crowds these days or for the uber lame TRIBALLLLLLLL FEEL MY DRUMSSSSS djs like Boris or Calderonie with cheese. Avalon used to unite everyone because there was always something for everyone with the lineups that they had. It's been pretty much the same for awhile now though. Noone can stay on top forever though. It's a sad day but I think it will actually do alot of good for the boston underground scene as its been undergoing alot of change. All the people who whine to see the big cheesy trance acts will still be able to see them in nyc or elsewhere but those bookings are not what makes a good music scene in a city especially like boston. Those guys will sell and attract big crowds no matter what. A scene is made by the underground acts that are pushing music forward and bringing forth new fans to the music and thus bringing forth new djs/new music/new ideas/new clubs.
^^^^^^^ big names are not necessarily cheese. cheese is dj sammy.
boston needs a big club with big names all the time, not only 6 times a year and probably a smaller club for talents.
rise is not about music, but about gays. Not that i have something against them, but being surronded by gays only is not what you expect when you go to a club. And they have vending machines for juice

Rise is cool but I dont have the energy to stay up past 3. I havent been to the landing in a long time but I used to goto a drum and bass night they had there a while back, and I wasnt impressed with the place. Its hard to imagine anything going on at goodlife downtown, I mean, the basement is depressing. I miss the days of Axis in the 1996-1998 timeframe. I dont think Avalon is as bad as you make it sound. All the names you mentioned make them money, and thats ok, some of those DJ are worth checking out. I loved Armin in march. Above and Beyond was a highlight in the past year too. It would have been cool if they made Axis into a more underground scene that you could switch too. I think it was hip hop the last time I went over there on fri. but since then I havent bothered. I wish there was something like Rise that wasnt afterhours. GU, your open party idea is cool Ive been hoping somebody in Beacon hill would start something like that on a prime roofdeck. Thats the way to kick it on a summer night in Boston!!!
Edit, I think we should take over the retarded rattlesnake roofdeck and make it an outdoor progressive party on friday starting early like at 5, trance on sat night, and reggae or something fun and chill on sun.
I've been going to avalon/axis since 2001. I know how it was and how it is now. It used to be one of the best clubs in the country with a more diverse clued in crowd with djs ranging from Mark Farina to Cassius To Carl Cox To Sasha and Digweed. It's not even close to how cool and fun it was. The themes and effort they put into the production for the club nights is not even there period. They used to have really cool themes every friday. It's way past its peak and everyone whos really been involved in the house/dance scene around here has moved away from lansdowne street to underbar/phoenix landing/rise/venu/aria/etc. etc.

| Originally posted by GUBostonDubs you post shit about gays at rise every single post about that club. You are definitely homophobic. They've never bothered me when I've been at that club. I go because they book acts like josh wink/carl craig/fred everything/demi/desyn masiello. I wonder why an afterhours club has a vending machine for juice. Hmmm.. are you that much of a fucking moron? |

If in a bedroom size club as rise where guys put their hands into other's guys pants and two other groups of drunk guys kiss each other doesnt bother you,it bothers me. I dont remember asking why there is a vending machine. It just looks stupid and dumb to have a vending machine for juice in a club. It is not even a club, it is an appartment. And if you like josh wink, I cant stand him, so keep your opinion on what's cheesy and whats not for yourself and dont be such an expert on music, because it is all a matter of taste. |

I think that give mes a little bit of a clue as to whats going on and gives me a right to have an opinion about Boston. Hiding behind "its a matter of taste" is the weakest most overrused argument ever. I don't give a damn what you think. Also You obviously pay attention to what gay people at rise are doing and have a problem ignoring it. I'm not bothered by things I'm not looking at. |
I ve to many other clubs where even if i try to look for something like this i wont see it, but anyway i dont care. you like it you go there, i wont. i was just saying what i think about the club as you were.
