Why is Paul van Dyk playing air guitar?

Okay, you might think I am nuts but when I saw Paul van Dyk at Giant a few weeks back, he was pretending to play air guitar during his set.

My cousin in San Francisco saw him at 1015 and he did the same thing the next night.

Has anyone else noticed him doing this at recent shows??

And if he is doing it, any ideas why?

He was probably doing it during the breakdown part of The Anthem, too.

Wow, that video gave me chills. I do love PVD and he looks so sexy up there.

But the air guitar did throw me when I saw him at Giant. It was more pronounced than the video, like an air guitar solo.

NAIICCE! I hope he pulls the newly famous air guitar move in cp , too.

because the air keyboard synthesizer only looks so cool

Probably got bored. That's what happens when you play pre-arranged set. I've actually seen more than one big-name DJ (without naming names) essentially fake an entire performance. From behind the DJ booth, you could see all the automation already done in Ableton. Seems like every year DJ performances get closer and closer to just sticking in a CD and pressing play. I think people like this should just plug in their ipod and go outside and smoke a cigarette.

"to err is human...to air guitar is divine..."

edit:

cynical note

pvd seems more akin to this as an act than a dj

Threads like this make me wonder sometimes about the guy or girl who might be standing next to me in a club. Is that person there for the music or are they there to see what the dj will do next so they can run back to a message board and talk about it?
