-- 1200 vs 1210
1200 vs 1210
WTF IS THE GODDAMN DIFFERENCE???
1210 is the European version with a voltage switch 110v / 220v. That is the only difference. (Oh and I believe 1210 has a European power plug).
Attn: There is NO DIFFERENCE in color, since both 1200 and 1210 are available in both black and silver.
does that mean i have to convert that shit and stuff opening the TTs if i order them from the states?
If you get your decks from the States and they are 1200s then yes, you have to buy a step-up transformer (it doesn't involve opening up your turntable, you simply plug it in between the deck and your power outlet).
If you get the 1210s then you're good.

Yes, if you get the 1210 there shouldn't be any problems. Just make sure to flip the switch underneath the platter to 220v before you plug in your turntables.
1210s are about $1400 a pair... its xpensive as hell... thats why im ordering from elsewhere
The difference between the 1200 and 1210 depends on the place you live. In the US it might be the voltage switch that differs, but in Europe (well at least in Belgium
) it's only, and I say ONLY, the color that differs (both have voltage selectors, 1200 is silver, 1210 is black).
i also belive the 1210s may have more torque then the 1200s....but the pitch wasnt that good as the 1200s thats what i got from playing with both.......

dont the 1210's have a pitch reset button?
the 1210s look sick as black ones too... i love that...
but technically speaking if there isnt much differance
why did technics release the 1210's?
Technics SL-1200MK2 - no voltage switch (either fixed 110v or 220v)
available in both black and silver.
Technics SL-1210MK2 - voltage switch 110v/220v
available in both black and silver - NO PERFORMANCE DIFFERENCE !!!
Technics SL-1200M3D - Pitch reset button, no zero-pitch indent (not sure about voltage since I never had a chance to remove the platter on one)
TranceClubber: the "pitch smoothness" and "torque" can have a lot of different causes - ie old/dirty pitch slider, different slipmats, etc ...
oh ok
thanx
pitch control 'detent?'
ok the 1200s have that click-detent-notch in the "O" range, right??
If so, does when making those super small adjustments just a notch above 0, does the speed change a lot????
[i only ask this because my current tables do that, and I hate that because there is a huge jump when moving the pitch control out of the 0 range ....when the green light turns to red, while making a minor adjustment.
It's very annoying, and is why I have to slowly change the pitch on the live table to compensate for the lack of precision around the 0 range.]

THE 1200 MK2 AND THE 1210 MK2 DO NOT HAVE A PITCH RESET BUTTON, THEY HAVE A "CLICK" AT O%!!! THE 1200 M3D 1210 M3D DO HAVE A PITCH RESET BUTTON AND DON'T HAVE A CLICK AT 0% PITCH!!!
Sorry for the caps but I'm pissed off at people asking the same question over and over agin without looking at older threads first.

The only difference, and ONLY difference here is the color. As for the US, then you are right. Some people claim the 1210 is slightly heavier, that's due to the voltage switch, it's only a couple of grams. |

Skywarp, I would if I had a camera right now. I'll try to find one (can take some time), but fact is, I have 3 1200's with the voltage switch right here at home.
All the 1200's I've seen in my country are silver, all 1210's are black, both have the voltage switch. Which is not the case in US, true.
As soon as I'll find a camera, I'll post some pics.

Yeah I had the exact same thoughts. Especially when I saw what they did with the model numbers with their phones.
Keep in mind my background : always known 1200 mkII's to be silver and 1210's to be black. They release their RPDJ1200's (the original, which I have). Black ones, ok no big problem here.
Couple of years later they released the 1210 phones. Silver ones. At that point I raised my eyebrows already
But things started to get even more complicated later.
You see, the original 1200's didn't have a coiled cord, and most important, they have prominent bass response. With the 1210 came a coiled cord, and a more flat response (it sounds more equilibrated).
But at some point they thought "Hey we should make the black ones with the coiled cord also, and that flat frequency response)" Which became the RP-DJ1200.
Hmm, what did the original 1200 become then. I went 1200a.
But when you look now, there seems to only be two models. The RPDJ1200 (black one, original specs) and the 1200a (silver ones with coiled cord and flat frequency response).
So you see, Technics isn't the most consistent when it comes to model numbers. Luckily enough, their equipment isn't built as bad
