esurance

so, we've all seen the commercials... but does anyone use them? do you recommend them?

they quoted me $40 less per month than i'm paying right now. i was just curious if anyone had any first-hand experience before i switched.

I've had them, for the last three years. They're a good company. One time, I got into an accident - some chick rear-ended my '96 in NY, and eSurance handled the driver's claim very well.

i see the commercials alllllll the fucking time, and yet massachusetts has some stupid laws so not a single one of the big companies does business here. few choices = little competition = consumer gets screwed god damnit

I just switched from Allstate to eSurance back in March. First, it saved me about $1000/year over my premium with Allsh!te that was HORRENDOUS BEYOND ANY BELIEF. (Besides, I TOTALLY HATED being called "STAN" by the black dude in allsh!te commercial)

Anywho. Recenty, my wife was involved in an accident - about $10K worth of damage. The claim was handled very quickly, adjuster was onsite next day. With allstate it sometimes took over a week. From discussions with our bodyshop, all and all, they covered about 95% of what was requested, while they had to fight with Allhell for every dollar and usually only got about 70% of everything that was asked, forcing them to use used/aftermarket parts.

So, I'm satisfied in that end.

Now, here's the bad part:

1. To really get serious savings, we had to pay for 6 months upfront - which was pretty hefty ($2700), but definitely better than $3260 we had to pay before. Going month to month was not a very good option, as the premium came out to be about the same as with Allhell.

2. NIGHTMARE of getting policy established. Sign this paper, fax this paper, confirm this confirm that. Faxing back and forth, lousy fax system that kept losing our faxes, 3 threats of policy cancellations for failing to fax the papers (when we did repeatedly) and unexplained charge for $350 because we didn't fax the documents they requested. Finally, after fighting with them for number of hours over several weeks, everything was FINALLY straightened out.

3. KEEP TABS ON YOUR POLICY FREQUENTLY, especially if you pre-pay, as they keep your CC. number on file. If for some reason they decide to increase your premium, notices are delivered electronically and unless you check, they may hit your credit card without your knowledge or conscent. In my experience, they don't bother too much with sending you same notices via regular mail or even e-mail.

4. Some customer service reps are rude and simply don't give a f*ck about even helping you. I was hung up on number of times while being transferred to suprevisor because the chick could not type in my last name after 5 attempts. Buuuuuut... I guess you find that everywhere. It's either hiring retarded and illiterate bumpkins that speak some form of american inglish or being transferred to some Apu in Bungholesheetabad: "Hello, how can I be helping you? May I be having your name and number policy?"

ugh...

anyway, YMMV. Overall, I'd give them (in my experience with insurance companies) 7.5/10.
