broke and need some cash?

go steal cats off toyota trucks. they have platinum, titanium, and rhodium in them. all very expensive metals. dunno how much you can get for them but you can prolly find a place online that will buy them off you.

holy shit just found a place. they pay $100 EACH!!!!!!!!! fuck i want my credit card paid off. i think i found me a side job! lol

I don't know, think I'll draw the line at cat theft... though Sleazy is getting kind of old and he's cost me a bundle over the years in vet fees so I might be able to get the vet to render him down when he kicks off.

Burmese are probably the easiest to steal, they're anyone's friends with a bowl of cat nibbles. Good ones can cost about $600 for a purebred kitten!

I have a Toyota truck, but it has no cat. Care to link a pic?

I started a company a while ago that recycled catalytic converters. My buddy who was a chemical engineer had the idea. I used to buy used & broken catalytic converters from auto/muffler shops & then cut them open with a plasma cutter. Then i would put all the catalyst in 55 gal drums. I got about 1k pounds of catalyst still sitting in storage & never had it shipped to a refinery. At the time the price of precious metals dropped so im still sitting on it.

Well i just checked the prices for the first time in over a year & rhodium is through the roof along with platinum. But palladium is low.

what do you have more of?

Posted by nchs09 on Jun-14-2007 15:50:

saw this on the news like a couple of months ago... was happening in atlanta but not anymore. specially to the cars that break down on the highway and the dsriver leaves to make a phonecall or something.

catalytic converters have the most in platinum, then palladium & then rhodium. I dont really have the metals. The metals are mixed with the catalyst in drums. When u cut a catalytic converter open u can see the metal but its tiny shiny spec flakes. When u have it refined is when they separate the precious metal from the catalyst & then give it to you in a bullion or will buy the bullion off u. Problem is that most refinerys will refine a shipment of catalyst & the minimum weight is 5000 pounds of catalyst.

Somehow I fail to see how stopping on the side of the highway in Atlanta "8 Lanes of Death" Georgia to steal a catalytic converter would qualify as even remotely safe.

Cash > brains?

on the shoulder.... people stop there all the time to get shit out of their trunks, when you get pulled over, to fix their boats etc....

i must admit i would be too nervous to get out of my car when cars are flying by me @ 65 mph :s

The slowest I have been through Atlanta was probably around 90ish. I didn't think they allowed you to slow to 65.

speedlimit is 55 i go 60 or 65 in places i know there are cops.

I read a story about this, I think it was Sacramento was having a lot of these thefts. If I remember right the article was blaming meth addicts selling the stolen cats to pay for drugs. I had to lol, I can just see some tweaker riding around neighborhoods at night with a sawzall looking for Toyota trucks.

Well, I hope they have slowed it down. We used to follow my aunt through there on the way to Florida every year. She was always bad to try to change 4 lanes in a quarter of a mile doing 85. Nuts.

lol they dont. You get ran the hell over if you go slower than 70 anywhere on the highway in the ATL.

Well unless you are in traffic. I hate traffic in ATL. It is the main reason i dont go see my family up there much. I have to plan my trips around the traffic pattern in atlanta.

Posted by nchs09 on Jun-14-2007 16:08:

... i use it everyday.. going 70 in the 65 areas and 60 or 65 in the 55 areas. we are civilized! we dont run poeple of the roads

ahh that makes sense. so start buying them off muffler shops and doing it again till you get 5000lbs? it sounds like a lot but the resulting profit would outweight that i would assume. no?

the problem is that when i was buying them in 2001 i was paying alot for some of the cats cause there is alot of competition in my area. When i decided i wanted to do this i didnt think there was much competition & i was wrong. So since i was paying a higher price to get the business, i then need to get a high price for the metals. Right when 2002 started the prices took a big drop which killed my profits when refined. Also if i were to do this again i need to find a more efficient way to cut a catalytic converter open. The plasma cutter i bought did the job but it was very slow & messy. It took me about 2 weeks to cut open about 375 catalytic converters.

Guess pay one of your younger relatives $3 an hour and give him an axe, kids love breaking things.
