so does that prove/disprove the pentagon "the fucking telephone poles were ripped so hard from the ground that they created an electromagnetic force field that exploded the hidden gas tanks near the bulletproof windows" 9/11 theory?

another crazy landing, except performed sideways

kai-tak was supposedly a crazy place to land

its called landing crab angle. Its common in high crosswinds

this is lanzarote airport which i frequent upto twice a year if i can I love landing cos u land coming in from the sea and when ur on the right hand side of the seats, u can barely see the land, and it looks as if you're going to land in water each time, quite fun

Posted by Prometheus Xex on Jun-16-2007 00:35:

There's a whole lotta people shittin' bricks with these landings!

There's a whole lotta people shittin' when the airplane is in a storm..

i think its kind if cool

i like the "adrenaline"

Posted by Ian on Jun-16-2007 00:38:

lol i bet most are unaware inside. it's those outside who run

Posted by fbgdavidson on Jun-16-2007 00:39:

That video is from the island of St Maarten in the Dutch Antilles (hence the KLM aircraft) and this landing is the standard approach. Maho Beach underneath the flight path is quite an attraction. See the link below for some more photos. That said, even for St Maarten that landing is quite low.

San Francisco is very similar. In fact on pretty much any small island you think you are going to ditch before ending up on asphalt...

Posted by Ian on Jun-16-2007 00:45:

now that's cool

That's EXACTLY how my plane landed in Perpignan, France. It's along the mediteranean, so winds are brutal. When I looked out my window, it looked like I was in the front of the planecus it was going diagonally like that. The pilots are experts since they have to land like that almost every day there.

You haven't seen a crosswind landing until you've seen this video. The final two are ridiculous!

Click on the video and the description on YouTube describes what is going on why Boeing are doing it.

Posted by Zoso on Jun-16-2007 02:22:

Holy hell. That shit looks difficult as fuck. Respect.

Posted by tubularbills on Jun-16-2007 05:57:

this kind of weather [crosswind stuff] is exactly what we kind of do in the AF. low level shear [from sfc-850mb] can grossly affect a landing/take off.

and with million dollar aircraft, it's something to invest the time into.

ps, hawaii is kind of the same thing - the runway basically ends @ the beach. at least, that's what i've been told.

Talk about skills. The pilot must have a lot of confidence when landing these crafts in that kind of condition.

As for low landings, I remember landing in the Dominican Republic one time. I was thinking how we were so close to the water just before reaching shore and just arching up and over this small hill to the runway. That was freaky.

Posted by d_bag on Jun-18-2007 02:29:

I love this place.

Nice beach.
Hott chicks.
Low-flying aircraft.

What more could you want?

Posted by Omega_M on Jun-18-2007 04:34:

dis shit is whack !

Ok, you gotta watch the 6 mins of video to understand the whackiness...

Posted by Ripped Bag on Jun-18-2007 04:48:

None of those really compare to what these guys do routinely:

Or maybe if they were at night, with no lights, and on a moving ship

Posted by Omega_M on Jun-18-2007 05:00:

Not to take anything away, but I'm sure they have plenty of navigational aids to guide them to the runaway.

It would be impossible to land blind with only human judgment.

Besides, landing a damaged 1 winged plane, after recovering from a deadly spin, after a mid air collision is deadlier than this. Aiight !?
