Seek -- First time here, please give me a chance

The pursuit of love, and the eventual happiness. A chase to begin, though.

First time here, so please avoid harsh feedback ^^ -- I appreciate constructive criticism, but I honestly don't know what I'm doing.

Need to get a better way of sharing files... speedyshare for example.

Cheers

Melody lines are good. Rhythm is good. Timing is good. Basically you've got the musical intuitions right; the sound engineering is where you need some work.

The changes need to happen with the tones of some of these voices. I'm guessing that you're using some default presets for some of your voices like the electric guitar. It is a pretty good sample but it sounds too perfect. When you've got a guitar, to me, it needs to sound more like you recorded the whole thing audio as opposed to using a MIDI controller and playing the guitar sound with the notes you inputed. I try to avoid anything that sounds too much like a standard instrument.

You need better kicks and better snares. There's too much "ooooooooo" in the "oot" of the kick if you get what I mean. I synthesize my own kicks using triangle waves. I can help you figure out how to do that if you're interested or give you a few of my samples to consider. Samples just don't work for me.

Your snare sounds too much like what some software designer thought a snare was supposed to sound like. When I say that, I mean the snare that you use in the rolls for your transitions. The regular snare that you're using is too quiet in my opinion or there's too much of a difference in their volume.

You seem to share my struggle in finding a good way to transition from one section to another. I can never figure out how to do it. The pitch modulation at around 1:20 is not working for me.

Your snare rolls as transitions stick out a little too much (like my own do - something I'm very self-conscious about). You may have too many transitions. You may need to have longer passages of time in which you don't have change.

Peace. I hope this helps. Put your stuff on soundclick.com. It's free and it's easier for listeners since you can stream it and you don't have to actually put the file on your computer.

Take care,
Agent Starchild

Thank you! I use FL Studio, how do I synthesize my own kicks?

I'm trying to remember because I used to use Fruity myself. You would want to go to whatever interface you use to create and tweak your voices. I can't remember if there's a default synth on Fruity or if it's just plug-ins. You want to go wherever you go to make your lead, bass, etc.

To create a trance kick, you want a simple triangle wave with the pitch going down very sharply. You're going to play a single 16th note at a very low There's going to be something either called a modulator or an LFO that can be used to change the pitch. You also need a low-pass (or LP) filter that modulates down sharply as well. You will need to set your filters to very low frequency and high resonance.

Please send me your email address and I will send you some samples of kicks that I made as well as a screen shot of what my setup looks like in Reason so you can try to set up something similar in Fruity Loops. It's hard to describe in words what you need to have.

Peace and good luck,
Agent Starchild

Sent...

I'm still trying on Newgrounds, since alot of people go there. But people pass through and drop 0 ratings just to boost their own stuff, which is really counter-intuitive. I had to resubmit thrice. High ratings help to counter that, so i'll have to drop a link: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/vie...87714&sub=84928

Was I supposed to receive your email address somehow? Didn't get it. Mine is [email protected]. Peace, Agent
