Guitars in Psytrance: Yes or no?

I'd have to say I'm a pretty big fan of the occasional bit of electric guitar if it suits the song and it sets it apart from other songs (e.g. Sun Project). I know a lot of people really dislike it though so I was wondering what you guys think. Well more specifically I'm talking about Electric guitars not the acoustic stuff in say I volume-Cosmic Tone or Jeenge-Infected mushroom. Although I have to say I really like Acoustic guitars in psytrance tunes too when they fit well.
Some good examples are:
Aries-Talamasca
Aztecs, Mayans and Inca's-1200 mics
Mescaline-1200 mics
Dance of the witches-S.U.N. Project
War dogs-Juno reactor

Haven't really heard any particuly bad examples though.

yes, but only if they are used in a kickass way.

"1200 Mics" absolutely Pwnz with guitars in their mixes.

Very very very rarely. 99.9% of the time guitars cheese up a psy track, especially heavier rock guitars.

If used correctly I like them.

Infected Mushroom - Bombat

I'll probably get shitted on for liking that track.

See now I actually liked I'm the supervisor a lot (cities of the future is very iffy though... sometimes I think it sounds great other times shitty).

B.P. Empire had the jazzyness combined with the bounce, converting vegetarians had the emotional tunes and I'm the supervisor actually sounds a lot like B.P. empire in a way. I really really hate Vicous Delicous though.

Is that even Psy?

Posted by sljiva on Jun-19-2007 12:21:

Well, not whole album. One half of the album is psy and the other is mixture of psy with ambient, nu-metal (not sure if this is the right term), rock and hip(trip)-hop. I can see how some people don't like it, but I find it very enjoyable. Not one of the best from them though

Same.. It works on some tracks but i really prefer without, you can make perfectly good psytrance without having to use all kinds of stupid effects, or guitars and what not.

I've sort of been listening to EBM/Industrial for years which often has a fair bit of guitar in it so I don't nearly find it such a vast divergence into electronic genres.
Sometimes it works, sometimes its crap, but you get that anywhere. It is nice to break up a psy set with them though, otherwise it can get a bit overly repetitive, so I've always looked at tracks with guitar riffs in them as something to break up the monotony of sound.

guitars have their place, it's just how they're used. If done well they can be great, if done badly it can be horrific.

Absolutely insane tune, but calling it psytrance is stupid.

Some rockin' tunes:

Killing Joke - The Death And Resurrection Show (Youth Remix)
Youth - Rainbow Samurai (Dragonfly Remix)
Youth - Acid Blues
Zodiac Youth - False Prophet (Man With No Name Remix)
Dali - Love Of My Life (Remix)
Cosmosis - Martian Blues (from the new album, really interesting tune)

Astrix - On Fire... rocking ch00n!!!!!

95% of psy tracks with electric guitars is nothing but rubbish. Using electric guitars in psy trance is unnaturally and leads this kind of music from its psychedelic nature to cheesiness.

hypersonic - zuma.
cheesy as fuck but i love it.

Well its got the overall psy/goa arrangement.

Like what, acoustic drums and guitars? Then all rock should be called psytrance from now on.

I meen stuff like... fake endings etc that are special to psytrance... surely you can tell the difference between a rock song with guitar and a dance (or psytrance) song with guitar. I guess its kinda borderling so not gonna argue it.
