Doing a hip-hop party next weekend, need some help... (w/Serato)

Hey what's up people?

I'm doing a hip-hop party next weekend. I don't usually do hip-hop gigs but im getting paid good cash. Anyways, here are the questions:

Anyone know of a forum or thread that shows a tracklist that includes top40 and classic hiphop tunes? Something that usually keeps the crowd hoppin all night long?

I'am also using Serato Scratch, if there are any tips and tricks you guys want to throw at me, plz do! I would love to put some EDM in the middle of the tracklist somewhere. I have seen a DJ mix "Fedde Le... - Put Your Hands Up For Detroit" in a hiphop tracklist and still keep the crowd on the floor.

I really need to impress these people because im the only DJ around this University area and it def. Wouldn't hurt to bring in some extra revenue on the weekends.

This may be helpful.

for classic party joints, you can never go wrong with "method man," "jinglin' baby," or "dwyck, but my suggestions may be flawed as i'm an aging whitey.

Give them some EPMD.

Have you tried Billboard?

There's also Promo Only (google, don't have the exact URL)

That's pretty good for the mainstream part.

he's got it right, find all the promo only stuff.
(find it any way you can)

...and the put your hands up, hip hop remix was from Eminem's rap crew out of Detroit (go figure).. called D12.

A hip hop party ain't a party without this track , classic to the purest sense. Throw this track to your mix if you want to get the party poppin.

And out of the new releases I'm feelin this new track with legends Rakim, Krs-one and Nas on it. It's a new release but it has a nice old school beat to it from Dj Premier

Posted by Dilmeet on Jun-22-2007 22:35:

FUCK YES! guys this is exactly the type of info i need - THANKS!

I gotta throw that bay area hyphy stuff too

Posted by ballmouse on Jun-22-2007 22:41:

No mention of

LL Cool J - You Can't Dance ?

Hashim - Al-Naafiysh (The Soul) too. It's classic electro with hip-hop beats

Posted by theognis1002 on Jun-22-2007 23:57:

Lloyd - Get It Shawty

my favorite hip hop tune currently... its 140 bpm high energy !!!!

Fuckin tune! You got a trademark Kanye verse in there too.

Posted by Cipha Sounds on Jun-23-2007 00:40:

When I first heard that Dj Premier track it bought it was like a breath of fresh air from all the garbage hip hop that's been coming out from the south. That's why I don't listen to too much hip hop lately because of all the watered down trash releases. All hip hop has going lately is catchy beats and hooks, the true lyricists are a dying breed.

I can honestly say there are as many bullshit releases from the hip hop genre as there have been with trance the past couple of years. I'd rather listen to old school psy and goa tracks than any new trance/prog releases just like I'd rather listen to some old school hip hop releases from the 90's than most the new shit released the past couple of years.Fuck, how much I miss the 90s.

Kind of difficult to read that post when I think half the words are mispelled and the rest aren't real words.

Posted by Dilmeet on Jun-23-2007 19:21:

any of you got any more ideas of slipping in some brief EDM in the middle of the set? So far I came up with "Nelly Furtado - Promiscuous Girl" mixed half with "Nelly Furtado - Promiscuous Girl(Axwell Remix)" should sound very decent when peoples are drunk. But yah.. any ideas would help for the EDM part
