Reason 4 Anounced!

click the splash at the top to read about the new devices

that new interface looks really nice on the sequencer...not to mention thor sounding great
Wow looks like some very nice new toys there. I just wish somthing like thor was released as a vst I mean having access to all of them osc on one syth looks just amazing!
I think I might finally get Reason when this is released. Should make a fantastic partner to Ableton Live and allow me to keep using my VSTs
Still not sign of midi out though
Duh!
You're saying you where actually expecting something like that? Seems to me you've missed reason 1,2,2.5 & 3 alltogether if you did.
Meh...
One can always hope for a feature that saves me fiddling about with rewire. Mmmmmk?
Still, might consider actually buying this one
I'm really happy to see vector based envelope editing. I sometimes got frustrated when tweaking an envelope.
I'm quite excited about the arpeggiator though. I've honestly never seen the ability to mute selected notes in a sequencer. That would be key for some live stuff, for me at least. Also: "The 'Single Note Repeat' function engages the arpeggiator only when two or more simultaneous notes are held down - letting you add sudden bursts of arpeggio to your melody lines." Neat. Also, you can use the Arpeggiator as a freakin' CV controller! That has the potential of creating some wacked out stuff.
Listen to the thor samples, not bad.
Yeah, might have to seriously consider this, to rewire.
OMFG. I've been waiting for this.
Holy crap. Finally a superwave oscillator!
I just spent a bit of time looking at the Thor flash example and the sounds. Wow it excites me so much. I'm just imagining the wonderful things I can do with 6 different types of OSCs, 4 filters (the Formant Filter also excites me) and plenty of modulation.
I'm pretty set on this and with an educational discount should only be about $450
sweet ey cant wait!!!
Is there an official release date?

| Sometime in October I bet, unless they run into alot of bugs. |
They said on their site, 4 to 8 weeks is typical for a beta test before it's released.
September should be about right but like Eldritch said, October if they find lots of bugs.
I want it now!
i signed up to beta test so should be good to see it in action when they release nxt beta version!
sounds good cant wait

oops...scratch the word sequencer, by that i meant a midi plugin. I mean, ableton has a nifty arp. plugin, but I'd like a bit more. I've been on the hunt for a MIDI effect VST that gives me that kind of control. I've found standalone programs, but alas, nothing user-friendly.
Gotcha. Words can be confusing huh? Yea. Arpache is pretty cool but not a huge amount of customization. I really love the way Albino's arpegiator works. Makes me want to plan in it right now. Lol.
Thor looks sick huh? Nothing suber new, but new to Reason. I love programs like Reaktor and Karma Synth. Fun times.
The big question is.
Are they freaking changing their sound engine? In terms of beats..Cubase and fruityloops > reason by far. The sound of reason is always nice. But it always felt supressed for some reason.
Thor looks awesome. might get back to making music. Wish they would create an Atmosphere kinda like synth with soundbank. more soundscapes from reason is needed since i used most of them when was producing heh.
You felt supressed for some... Reason? LOL. Sorry I couldn't help myself.
Nothing is stopping you from making great sounds from Reason. My teacher Jake has made amazing sound tunes in Reason.
You can mix pretty well in Reason, but the real trick to making quality tunes is to MIX your track in a different DAW. Sure you can do a pretty good job in Reason alone, but when you can have access to better compressors and equalizers AND better automation features, you'll end up with a much better mix in say, Pro Tools, Cubase, even Ableton.
So yea. This fart-in-the-wind bullshit about Reason having a somehow inferior sound-engine, is just that.
However if you still feel that way, put it this way: Say I write a bunch of patches in Albino 3 VST, and I use NOTHING but Albino for my ENTIRE song (basses, drums, leads, etc). Then you could safely say my song sounds "Albinoy".
Meh. Do you kinda see where I'm going, I haven't had all my coffee yet this morning so I'm not on my A-Game just yet.

first of all, it's a myth created at communities that reason has a sound engine that is worse than cubases, FL's, [insert favourite sequencer software yadi yada here].
Reasons sound engine processes them float numbers in 32bit just like cubase and FL
(I know it's a bit simplified saying that but you get the frickin point). Nuff about that and back to topic
it shure as hell looks good, it's really about time that they update the sequencer part since it felt really old tbh. Vector manipulation, the possibility to create second takes and stuff like that is super! (I often tend to have small bursts of track layed out in the sequencer, no need for that any more
)
Thor looks interesting too, seems like you can do pretty much anything you want with it. And imagine a few thors, subtractors and malstroms combinated...my god what a crazy setup that could make.
The only thing I really miss (as usual) is the (at least in other programs)regular audio track. I mean shure you have the samplers NN-19 and NN-XT but if you want to work with a full vocal track the only good option is to rewire. Why on earth can't they just create a simple audio track, it doesn't need warping options, automatic stutter magic and a laser gun. I would be perfectly happy with a basic audio track!
