Confused with hooking up vinyl and cd players
basically, i've had this problem for a while, tho i've just managed to work round it annoying as it is!
below is an editted pic of how i have my decks connected to my mixer:

basically this is my problem, my vinyl comes through too loud! every single one of them!
if i leave the EQ's in the middle while playing a vinyl, it red lines through the roof! i have to turn the EQ's equally down to around 10 o'clock to keep it in the red. the same happens if i try it in the other spare channel.
any ideas?
thanks in advance!
why dont you just use the gains?
because even with the gain on the channel turned down it still doesnt make any difference.... my mixer knackered? lol
So you turn the gains down and it still red lines?
The phono input is too loud? Did you try switching your cd player into the phono input and the turntables inot the cd input? maby its screwed around
Or maby your turntables have a line level input ?
What turntables are you using? I think some of the new ones (like the Numark TTX's, perhaps) don't have a true phono connection b/c the pre-amp is in the unit itself. Does your turntable have a ground cable? If not, probably pre-amped.
if i turn the gain down it still redlines, yes - it does make a little difference but where there's a beat it is still hitting the red quite frequently - thus turning the EQ's down a little bit
just tried using the line inputs but nothing wotsoever comes out of the mixer as expected
the tt is old, very old... numark TT-1520 and yep, it has a ground wire
try hooking it up to every phono connection to see if it's the connection or the mixer, could be the TT too
try find another TT and hook it up to see if that's the problem too
go through and eliminate every possibility and you'll find your problem
my tt is switchable between phono and line so c if ur is tat might be a problem
im a noob...
why do u gotta plug TT into phono? why not Line input

it's pretty unlikely the pre-amp is messed on all 4 channels
now, either get your lazy ass up and get that other TT, or borrow one from a friend or even take your mixer over to a friend's house and try it there
then once you eliminate the mixer from the problem you can start shopping for a new TT
i'd also take a look at your carts, headshells and styli
hehe yes boss
i suppose i could get the other TT down this afternoon
