How many drinks?

So, how many drinks before your mixing gets sloppy?

Drinks are measured as a standard, 375ml (12oz?), 5% alcoholic beverage, i.e one bottle of beer.

Can't say I've ever tested it before...

Sounds like a challenge to me!

I spin better when I'm drunk than sober

Posted by ill0gical0ne on Jun-21-2007 05:10:

I mix better drunk. Just have to remember to mix and not chase tail.

Posted by nefardec on Jun-21-2007 06:06:

after about 6 it starts getting a bit difficult to concentrate closely on the mix

by then everyone else can say the same thing so it doesn't really matter

Posted by Domesticated on Jun-21-2007 06:09:

My beat matching is pretty shit even when I'm sober, so I reckon I have to concentrate a bit harder than most.

3 drinks and I start losing it.

By 6 it's gone altogether.

same, but there's still a limit to it.

for me at approx. 5-6 drinks, I'm kinda buzzed and I not only mix better, but enjoy myself a lot more as well. but after 8 or so drinks, my mixing gets progressively worse.

and when your drinks are on the house... its hard to resist.
people that keep feeding me beers while I'm playing are evil... kind... but still evil.

Posted by Storyteller on Jun-21-2007 08:24:

From what I've tried at home my mixing gets off very quickly with just a few drinks.

Never tried in the club, won't do it for now either. I'd like to stay sober until after my set

Posted by Spoonz on Jun-21-2007 08:29:

difficult to tell as i rarely drink bottles. get more in a can lol (440ml) would still say about 8 tho which by googles calculations is:

(440 x 8) / 375 = 9.38666667

Thanks mate!

Thumbs up right back at your from me personally too!

btw, m2j, do you always wear that teachers outfit with bow tie?

Posted by Zoso on Jun-21-2007 11:42:

Storyteller, love your Rideau Street remix! Killer tune.

I'd say about 4-6 and my mixes aren't nearly as tight as they should be.

Posted by SPAWNmaster on Jun-21-2007 12:18:

while any of the technical aspects such as beatmatching, harmonics, phrasing etc are unaffected even when im basically blacked out like someone already mentioned i also start to get a little sloppy with the track selection and overall mixing around 5/6+ beers.

Posted by Nemesis44 on Jun-21-2007 13:11:

Yup, another drinking machine here. Although I did have to cut back a hell of a lot as I did find I fell into the trap that I was legless by the end of a night and almost fell into the alcoholic hole.
Now it's moderation for me for the most part but not because of mixing ability.

Cheers
Nem

lol
that maybe true... but you gotta think, 95% of the audience is drinking too, so as long as you're a tiny bit more sober, you're good. haha

a bomb of speed will sort ur alcoholism out

Posted by Zild on Jun-21-2007 17:26:

I get fucking smashed. Sometimes a little too much but thats only due to prescription meds not alcohol.

Actually, I think I spin better when I'm hungover too

LOL! Mmmmmm right...

Seriously though, for you guys that are starting to play out on a regular basis, watch out because it does creep up on you. A little bit here a little bit there... someone asks you if you want to powder you nose.
Whilst it is all meant to be good fun and very often is, beware that this kind of lifestyle can take you to some very dark places if you don't take care.
I don't want to get all preachy on your asses and still have a good time, just reflect from time to time on what you are doing.

Cheers

+1

it's taken me a lot of practice to get to this point, not really practice i guess but building my tolerance

i'm very much a borderline alcoholic, if not full blown now after playing in nightclubs the past few years

i do make a conscious effort to try and take it easy now though

it all starts innocently enough

i've seen a few djs go down that path

have fun, be careful, when it stops becoming fun, check your head

keep your feet grounded on why you started doing this in the first place, we all love the music, party prescriptions are a plus
