Best free games

preferably with online gameplay or something.

Doesn't have online play, but Cave Story is a fantastic free game.

Undoubtably:

Americas Army, only online, super game, just as good like any other game out there, except, its free :-)
Plus, it gets constantly updated too, which is good but i hate, they change too much

bleh...America's Army stinks. It's more of a simulation than a game, and it's wayy too easy to die...not very fun at all.

Wolfenstein Enemy Territory blows it out of the water.

Try it, and you will never go back.

You do know that the primary purpose of AA is recruiting tool for US army?

I don't understand America's Army. Last time i played, I went for about 45 minutes, fired tons of clips within that period, about maybe 15 rounds of which ever registered (using either semi or full auto). i deleted it. it's also a 2gb download.

+1 to Enemy Territory.

System Shock 2, free

Soldat

a multiplayer 2-d shooter. very simple, but very addictive.

Warning: Forever

Space shooter that has no ending, but just gets harder and harder and harder. It's immensely frustrating to lose, but you always come back asking for more

pfft. who cares? are you really afraid that people are going to get sucked into the army because of a game? if it's a good game, it's a good game. I couldn't care less about the motivation behind it, as long as it's not too propagandized (some amount is expected, as, after all, it's free).

that being said, the game absolutely blows.

The post above listing "System Shock 2 free"...I can't find the link??

I've been dying to play this game. Is it really free now?
Link?

I meant to allude that AA was designed unlike most other FPS with a dose of realism for the purpose of recruiting tool for US Army. A bit of taste of what you might do in US army.

So the primary purpose is not fun for 15 yr olds to get his jollies off. (although it is a secondary purpose) The primary purpose is to get potential recruits to have an interest in a career in US Army.

it never used to work for me, but i loaded it up about a week ago and it worked almost perfectly (it minimizes to the desktop anytime a movie plays, but it doesn't crash). perhaps an XP-update fixes compatibility issues. i wouldn't know about 2k though.

If you are having problems, open the c:/shshock2 folder and add to your shock.cfg file:

safe_texture_manager

Just put that in a blank spot, save it, and try again. It worked for me.

I also read that if you have a Dual Core processor, you need to go to the game menu, then open the task manager (control+alt+delete), find the system shock process and under the "set affinity" option, uncheck one of the CPU's. It wasn't designed to run on a dual core chip, so this should fix the problem.

well i certainly dont have a dual core on my circa 2000 win2k p3

but i downgraded my nvidia drivers as this was mentioned as a fix and launched it with win2k compatibility mode...the main screen came up but crashed when i tried to start a game|

i will likely try the tex_man thing tho...when i stop playing Cave Story. hehe
