Fireflies are Da bomb!

I was just walking my dog in the woods (11pm), and I walked by a decent sized clearing that was filled with firelies.

There were little lights flashing in every direction, and at every distance. It was as visually interesting as anything I've ever seen.

I'm going back tomorrow with a chair

Lightning Bug > Firefly

I think there is a place in Kentucky where the lightning bugs flash in unison. Pretty sweet imo.

EDIT:

My bad, it's Tennessee:

quote:
In the United States, one of the most famous sightings of fireflies blinking in unison occurs near Elkmont, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains during the second week of June. Congaree National Park in South Carolina is host to the phenomenon

I thought lightning bugs were a synonym for fireflies?

+1

lightning bug just sounds cooler.

edit,

we used to collect 'em as kids - then kill them and use the glowing yellowy stuff to write on stuff.

I've never heard the term 'lightning bug' before. Always called them fireflies.

That's because I suck at night photography!

I haven't seen any this year. It could be because of how inanely torrid it is here.
