DJ Networking Atlanta, Georgia

Any DJs (or learning-to-DJ) out there (trance/breaks) in the Atlanta, Georgia area interested in teaching/learning how to spin?

I've been closet DJing for like a year and would kill to find someone w/ a similar interest. I'm 34 and been a trance/breaks fan for a long, long time. I finally decided that I better learn how to DJ and stop dreaming about it. Sometimes the mix is good, sometimes not so hot, but I want to learn how to do it better. I'm using the unconventional mixer/computer setup (works for me at this stage).

Oh, by chance is there any DJing groups in the area?

Thought I'd ask.

Looking forward to Tiesto in Sept!
Eric

1. Post in the Atlanta forum.

2. Lose the computer setup if you really want to learn to DJ. It's easy to go from turntables to computer, the other way around rarely works out well.

3. Uhhh...not sure what you're looking for here...

Roger, that (wrong forum). Sorta flipped a mental coin on which forum. Looks like it wasn't a winner

Cool! I have a DJ setup but never really have learned how to properly spin... I am in Atlanta as well now and wanted to see if there was anyone out there that was interested in teaching as well? I have a mixer, turntables, and studio monitors and about 150 records with me (plus I have serato scratch live so I guess the music possibilities are endless) and would love to learn how to DJ as well.

Keithos: Maybe we can all get together when I move down to Alpharetta next week. I can help you guys out with mixing (I'm no Digweed, but I can give some pointers) if you can help me find the nearest Wal-Mart

Maybe we can get a TA Altanta crew together and host some good events in the area. Who knows?

Far isn't a huge problem, as long as it isn't California

Let us know more datails as the event gets closer. I would like to play if I can. Is there someone I can contact about the event?

Awesome! I'd like to teach myself but I'm not doing a very good job at it. I work some pretty insane hours during the week (doing an investment banking internship) but am around on weekends generally speaking to mix around for a few hours here and there. I live in midtown Atlanta. Would love to get together and spin some trance, prog, etc if someone would like to show me/us?

Keith

I live in midtown too and have been DJing for years. You and Eric should PM me and maybe we could meet up some time.

How do you like Emory? I'm thinking of going there in a couple years when my wife finishes (sigh) law school. I was thinking of Wharton or HBS, but Emory has a better ROI. (PM me so I don't hijack the thread.)

...small damn world. One of my best friends is in the Emory MBA program (whichever one that meets on weekends). I got my mba back in 99 (Rollins College, Orlando)...it opens tons of doors. Emory's rep should work wonders!

TA-T-L...sorta a novel, interesting idea. Man, finding ppl who love trance is a rare thing. Keep me in the loop.

Awesome! Wow, small world. This could be exciting! Is there a way I can PM multiple people at one time... This could get hard to coordinate (what a great problem) and I don't want to hijack DJ_Eric's thread... I'm still at work (9:53 PM, sigh) but will try and get some PM out tonight when I get home...

Then again, maybe not. j/k. I'm a consultant by day, so I know how the long hours go.

Posted by keithos27 on Jun-27-2007 02:59:

^Haha... then you guys know that the extra price for the VIP is well worth it when you want to treat yourself...

I'm so excited to learn how to DJ and meet up with peeps in the ATL that I keep checking this forum even though I should be doing IB stuff... Haha.

i've been taking the "easy" road....external mixer, computer, software to visually determine beats, tweak by ear. i hope i don't get booted for it, lol.

u know, when i got the real deal i set everything up and it sounded like crap. i took some of the equipment into the store and had them try it out and whoever i worked w/ couldn't figure it out either. that was enough to break the $1700 camel's back.

I sometime later happened to come across the "equipment" i use now. i've certainly learned how to butcher things, and sometimes i hit a few songs in a row that i take pride in. one of the many things i still struggle w/ is making the sound of the transition smooth. track selection makes a huge diff, but i need to find more tricks for making things sound more fluid. i usually bite it when going from trance to breaks and back again. i might just leave breaks out altogether, but it really takes things to a diff lvl.

u know, i guess i was lucky to get my taste of breaks when i lived in orlando for a few years. was a good scene down there (anyone remember Firestone on Sunday nights? i'll never forget...

BTW, my setup so you guys know what we'll be working with... Photos from old apartment in NYC but the setup is still the same down here in Atlanta.
