What is the first ever trance compilation?

I was thinking about this when i started d/ling all the trance classics. Since the first ever trance tune is made by The KLF in 1988 then im thinking it must be something from that era or early 90s. If u know please tell me.

back then there were no TRANCE only compilations since trance wasn't a big genre but the compilations would rather future trance, techno, house.

the ones listed here are not single compilations but actual series which goes on for several years.
some of the earliest compilation series are:

The Reactivate series (started in 1991)
The Trancemaster series (started 1992)
The Secret Life of Trance series (started in 1993)

The first trancecompilation which was DJ-mixed was Tranceformed From Beyond by Cosmic Baby & Mijk van Dijk (released 1992):

If you're into classic trance you probably want stuff from Harthouse, MFS, Eye Q, Superstition, Platipus so here you go:

VA - Harthouse Chapter 1 - The Point Of No Return
VA - Behind The Eye Vol. 1
VA - The Sound Of Superstition Records Volume One
VA - X-Mix-1 - The MFS-Trip and already mentioned Tranceformed From Beyond
VA - Platipus Records Volume One

behind the eye was f'cking mint!

Arguable whether this would be considered trance or techno (it was rather similar in those days) but you can't neglect the first Suck Me Plasma compilation from 1991:

1000 Ohm!

I'm often saddened by how little respect Music Research gets with regards to trance. With their industrial/new beat releases on Zoth Ommog, they were probably pushing primitive trance even before MFS.

Fun fact: Dance 2 Trance's Dance 2 Trance (which had We Came In Peace as the B-Side) was a Suck Me Plasma release.

i'm not sure if that's correct. maybe this one:

Night Moves - Transdance [1983]

edit.

just found this, not a great sample

Also check out the old "Trance Europe Express" compilations. It's not just fully trance but more mixed with techno, ambient and goa. These are one of the comps that influenced in early 90's.

Why? Because it has trans in its title?

I wouldn't say that trance was born before 1990. Sure, some melodic & hypnotic techno (and house) existed even before that, but that trance sound that was developing from 1992 onwards probably came from German labels such as Suck Me Plasma (Dance 2 Trance), Eye Q (Hoffmann, Hildenbeutel, Britzke), MFS (Effective Force) and some others (Trilithon, Resistance D, Age Of Love)

Well, than you can say that 'I Feel Love' is trance too...

i'm not willing to go that far.

How about Boney M's Nightflight To Venus?

Listen.

Proto-trance! ...or disco kraut-rock. I'm not sure.
