laptop SPDIF
hello guys...
I am just wondering if anyone has a tip
I got this new laptop ASUS F3H AP0054C or something like that is the model number...
it has a headphone jack in front and the jack is labeled headphones/spdif...how do I set it to spdif?
and will this bypass the soundcard and send out only digital signal? what I want to do is bypass it's soundcard and use the other I have on the other PC through spdif in...does that sound right? Any tips how to set it to spdif?
btw...the sound in the lappy is Sigmatel HighDefinition onboard audio...I know it sucks...thats the reason I want to use the other soundcard...kthxbye
Main volume control options?
Or Sounds and Audio device properties in control panel? Might be a checkbox there.
Hope you find something!
there simply isn't...I have even searched the manual (which I something I usually save for the last resort...)
might be something with the drivers...since the lappy had vista preinstalled and I downgraded to XP...I might need to d/l correct drivers I think :-/
still...if anyone has any ideas feel free to post them...thanks
3F05Q: thanks for reply, though!
The spdif is still the output of the soundcard on your laptop, so why do you need to route it through another computer/soundcard to convert it back to analog and then create a new analog output when the source is still the laptop?
I thought SPDIF sends digital signal...which means the soundcard in lappy won't affect what I hear...and I can monitor the laptop output through my studio soundcard?
the only difference is you will be using the ADC/DAC in the external sound card. all the sound processing etc. and latency of an onboard card will still be there.
ahhh
so it won't help much right?
damn it :-/
the sound quality should be better, but latency (shit drivers) will be high.
I know...
what I thought was that I would use less resource hungry VSTs and shit for composing (recording from midi keyboard and so on) on the studio PC which has latency like 5ms...without a problem...then I would move this draft to my lappy and use better sounds do the mix etc...
the thing is...my production PC at the moment is an athlon 1.8ghz...which is a bit...low...
on the other hand the lappy is a dual-core...
when mixing...arranging and so on...I don't care about latency that much...
I just would love to use the CPU power of the lappy somehow
