KarateKid 24 Bit Mode & Synth Question

Hey guys, i have a couple bassdrum samples at 24 Bit, does this mean i'm suppose to set the whole project to 24 Bit mode even if other samples are at 16 Bit? And is there difference in audio quality between an external FM synth like dx7 and the virtual FM8 synth? cuz their both digital

you should set it to 24bit regardless. the more bits the better.

thanks but what about the theory where you can't add additional data like kilobytes to certain material like samples, does that also apply in Bits?

Think so. If you convert a 16bit sample to 32bits, you'd just add 16 zeros to the 16bit sample.

I think

its true, once the bits are gone they're gone. however, what happens when you apply an effect to that sample and then bounce it for some reason?

assuming your host automatically bounces at the project bit depth... its obviously a good idea to leave it as high as possible.

also... just to be clear, it won't make any difference except with samples. your synths wont be affected, because all internal mixing will be done at 32bit float regardless.

interesting, but most label requirements are 16 Bit, but then again you can also bounce to 24 bit for personal use ike the audio 8 dj d/a converter that supports 24 bit

Edit-hey why not have 2 versions? if you have enough diskspace

oops, sorry i didnt notice you were talking about external synth!
