just heard on CNN as I walked by...

they were doing an ad for paris hilton's first interview out of prison, and the background music was Motorcycle - As The Rush Comes. kinda weird for cnn to play a tune like that, but whatever.

-then last night there was a jeep commercial with the lyrics from PVD-Time Of Our Lives.

-kinda cool to hear this stuff on mainstream american tv

The media is behind; those songs are old.

even when they played time of our lives in the underwaters scene of deep blue with jessica alba, it was old.

What does it matters if it's old or not?

Depends what angle you look at it from... If someone knows the song is old, they may immediately associate the product/service you are trying to sell in the commercial as being old/not hip/etc. To those who don't know how old/new it is (the general public when it comes to EDM) then it probably doesn't matter all that much.

Generally speaking, I wouldn't expect movies/commercials/etc to have the newest songs in them with respects to EDM.

Isn't it Vega 4's version of the song? i.e. not the PVD club mix?

music in marketing is usually about recognition and association with memories, etc

unless it's something really catchy or currently popular advertisers aren't going to use new music.

this can mean recognizable, approachable 'songs'

or recognizable, approachable styles

tracks like as the rush comes and time of our lives are easily digestible to the american public because the vocals are essentially pop vocals

They actually play that song A LOT on CNN as they transition to commercial. I work from home a lot and keep CNN HLN on for background noise and I hear them play that track at least once a week...usually during the same time slot. Oh well, at least they're representing the EDM, however dated that track may be.
