SAVE NET RADIO - June 26, 2007 day of silence

The future of Internet radio is in immediate danger. Royalty rates for webcasters have been drastically increased by a recent ruling and are due to go into effect on July 15 (retroactive to Jan 1, 2006!).

The best radio stations out there are on the internet. The major record labels have lobbied hardcore to shut down these free stations by jacking up royalty fees by up to 1200% thus making it impossible for these stations to exist as is.

I realize most people are too busy to protest about an unjustifiable war or the loss of constitutional rights as a result of a tyrannical president, but one thing I know is you people love your music. So if you give a shit at all about proton radio, soma fm, or your local dj friends spinning on di fm (or any other excellent internet radio station) take some action and call your representatives tomorrow. If you can speak english you can do this.

If you are from New York call Senator Chuck Shummer at (202) 224-6542 and Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton at (202) 224-4451. Go to savenetradio.org for more information.

If you call leave the below message. Call between the hours of 9am and 5pm EST.

Spread the word.

1) I am a constituent and Im calling to ask Congressman/woman ________ to save Internet radio by co-sponsoring H.R. 2060, the Internet Radio Equality Act.
2) The Copyright Royalty Boards decision to increase royalty rates for webcasters is going to turn off my Internet radio and I do NOT want that to happen. Please tell Congressman/woman ___________ to co-sponsor H.R. 2060, the Internet Radio Equality Act.
3) I believe that artists should be fairly compensated for the music they make, but putting my webcasters out of business will only hurt artists more. They depend on Internet radio to get their music out to fans and build new audiences. When the webcasters go off the air, so do artists. Please co-sponsor H.R. 2060, the Internet Radio Equality Act.
4) Internet radio is one of the only bright spots for independent music and diversity. We NEED Internet radio. Dont turn it off. Co-sponsor H.R. 2060, the Internet Radio Equality Act.
5) (If you are an artist) Internet radio enables artists like myself to reach fans throughout the country and enjoy exposure and airplay that we may otherwise have not received. I'm asking you to co-sponsor H.R. 2060, the Internet Radio Equality Act.

Call your state representatives now!! The increase in royalty rates is hogwash. How can internet radio companies be sued several times their annual gross revenue? Just doesn't make sense to me. Royalty rates are supposed to help the artists, but no additional money's going to be made if these internet radio stations shut down for good.

IMMEDIATE ACTION NEEDED: CALL YOUR SENATORS AND YOUR REPRESENTATIVE TODAY TO ASK THEM TO CO-SPONSOR AND BRING TO THE FLOOR FOR AN IMMEDIATE VOTE THE INTERNET RADIO EQUALITY ACT, S. 1353 IN THE SENATE AND H.R. 2060 IN THE HOUSE!
Call Now

Time and options are running out for Internet Radio. The emergency stay sought on behalf of webcasters, millions of listeners and the artists and music they support has been denied.

UNLESS CONGRESS ACTS BY JULY 15th, the new ruinous royalty rates will go into effect on Sunday, threatening the future of all Internet radio.

This situation is grave, but that makes the message all the simpler and more serious.

CALL YOUR SENATORS AND REPRESENTATIVES RIGHT AWAY and urge them to support the Internet Equality Act. If they've already co-sponsored, thank them and ask them to fight to bring it to the floor for an immediate vote.

Ive been posting about this for months. Most people didn't take it seriously...or care enough to give a few minutes to sign the petition. If this really happens I think I will go into liveset withdrawal

I called Hillary and Chuck in DC and NY. I did my part. Plus I also emailed Chelsea Clinton's boyfriend who I have known for 20 years.
