How to make mojitos‽

i want to try making some tonight
there's a shitload of various ways i've found and i figure someone on here's gotta know how

Posted by Orbax on Jun-30-2007 23:13:

i liked them by the shot. Get a shaker with ice and fresh mint leaves in it and shake up the mix and pour. Cold, smooth, and minty.

Posted by OurManFlint on Jun-30-2007 23:47:

Get some mint leaves, sugar, lime wedges, and muddle those in a shaker. Throw som ice and rum in and shake. Put everything in a glass and top it off with only a little bit of club soda. That's how I make mine. Never use syrup. Stick to the raw ingedients.

Get everything into a fine pulp, just mash the fuck out of it all, the ice, mint, limes, sugar. Then pour rum over it and a splash of soda.

see this is why i asked
i've heard the mash everything, but more often i've heard just bruise the mint leaves

Ya, I wouldn't mash them, that's why it's good just to muddle them, or "bruise" them. You just want to release the flavors of the mint, not destroy it. If you don't have one, just use a spoon and muddle it in your hands.

I can tell you that Orbax doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about so exclude his advice from your decision making process.

k, macguyver time
without an extensive bartender's supplies, i have no 'muddler'
what to use in its stead?
cause its kinda a key part of the process :/

I said above, use a spoon. Put the mint leaf flat in your hand and press the spoon on the leaf and twist. This releases the mint flavor. Next, put some lime wedges and sugar in a shaker, then use the spoon to muddle those, basically smash and mix. Throw the leafs in after, rum, ice, and then shake. Put it in a glass and top it off with a little club soda.

true
but wouldn't the oils you release from the mint mostly just go into your hands?
not saying your wrong, thats just what makes sense to me

Well, sice you don't have a muddler, that would seem like the best idea. I've only done that once, but you can try to do it with a spoon and muddle the leafs in the cup. Try some things out and see what best works for you.

dude you can use the shittiest ingredients in the world, just plant a fuckin mint plant. (and not mint like classy)

they grow like weeds in most climates, and as long as you wash the cat pee off, you can use bartons to make the best mojito in your life.

crush the sugar with just picked mint, add ice, but more rum than club soda - excellent.

its true, just have a shitload of mint|

Posted by biznology on Jul-01-2007 10:15:

mortar and pestle, or at least a glass and wooden spoon!

you have to make this glass by glass, not in a BFn pitcher|

Posted by all-nite-freak on Jul-01-2007 10:19:

take out wallet, hand over credit card, say "i would like to start a tab can i get some mojitos", drink like a fish, pat your own back for stealing grandma's credit card.
profit
srsly they really taste better with this method.
call me
