The NYTA NHL thread
I know we have quite a number of NHL fans on this part of the board, so I decided to make a thread since today was a flurry of activity with the free agent signings today
Local:
Philadelphia Fleyrs sign Buffalo Sabres co-Captain Center Daniel Briere for 8 years $52 million
New York Rangers sign New Jersey Devils Center Scott Gomez for 7 years $51.5 million
New York Rangers sign Buffalo Sabres co-Captain Center Chris Drury for 5 years $35 million
New York Islanders sign Atlanta Thrashers forward Jon Sim for 3 years, terms not disclosed
Detroit Red Wings sign New Jersey Defenseman Brian Rafalski for 5 years $30 million
Toronto Maple Leafs sign New York Islanders forward Jason Blake for 5 years $20 million
Washington Capitals sign defenseman Tom Poti for 4 years $14 million
Washington Capitals sign New York Islanders forward Viktor Kozlov to a two-year deal worth $5 million.
Exciting day for the New York Rangers...Glen Sather was the man today
. I would have loved to see Colorado make a big move but oh well. Rangers definitely have a fighting chance next season if Gomez and Drury could come in produce as much as they are expected to.
*would have liked to see some added defensemen but oh well

Oh wait Colorado got Scott Hannan from SJ, gritty player if I remember correctly not too bad of an addition...it'll never be like the good old days though when a Stanley Cup was legitimately within sight every year
looks like NJ took a bit of a hit today

i liked the drury signing for the rangers
but the rangers paid gomez way too much money and for 7 years too
....and like a true yankee fan I dont give a f*ck who they are or where they come from as long as they bring home the cup.

| Originally posted by chimera66 i was sad about that trade...don't you dare wish harm onto the rangers. strength of the league deeply depends on the ny market and the rangers specifically. |

| Originally posted by chimera66 it is a long time and a lot of money and with a cap i wouldn't want to tie down too many players...um I wonder who specifically handled this negotiation, Glen plus ??? |

Nashville Predators sign NY Rangers center Jed Ortymeyer for 2 years 1.5 million
I'm going to miss Orty. He was such a hard worker. They'll love him down there while they still have a team
Washington Capitals sign NY Rangers center Michael Nylander (report didn't say anything about the contract)
Pittsburgh Penguins signed Edmonton Oiler winger Petr Sykora to a two-year contract.
Pittsburgh Penguins signed defenseman Darryl Sydor to a two-year contract.
