Dj Desk

Well I am looking to get myself a fairly cheap Dj desk. My equipment (2) CDJ-200, a Vestax VMC-004 Mixer, and some speakers. I found a cool combination on Ikea's site.

Table Legs: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60104325

Table Top: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70103033

It's about $169.99.

Any opinions/recommendations???

Looks dope to me, and thanks for inspiring me to try and build my own!

Moving soon, will want some new furniture for the new house!

Edit: If we can fit it, I think I might want to pick up something similar to what you have up there, just a touch longer - the 78" - and see if we can get everything (production computers and home DJ setup) on there. I think you could even get two pieces and angle it... Either way, very cool find - I wish Ikea was relatively easy for us to get to/deal with...

I found a brushed steel top table from ikea that I bought from craigslist. It's just a flat table but its very tall and on wheels. I put an end table under it for placing my CDs, though now I've moved the room around so its on the side of the decks.

i decided to build my own a few weeks ago but gf wouldnt let me do it all meself (as i have now joinery experience lol)

so i designed it and took my design to a furniture shop for them to build for me.

the only problem here is the main objective has now gone. it's not gonna be cheap! still waiting for the guy to get back to me with a price!!!

In my experience, Ikea stuff can be hit or miss. For that price you might want to check out this for $199:

It's more suited to fit your needs. Mixer + CD decks on the lower part and speakers on the upper part. Plus, if you decide to add more gear to your collection, this thing has a fair amount of rack space.

why wouldn't she let you build it?? I would take it to the shop only if she was willing to pay for it.

cos if i bought all the materials and then fucked it all up it would be a fair loss of cash really lol - at least this way i guess it will last longer. plus the guy who i took it to saw a few flawes in my design which we ironed out when i was there so that's kool

Custom job...nice! Is that still going to be cheaper than buying something from Omnirax?

just had a look at the omnirax website and i hope so! lol

hoping no more than 250 GBP

my design:

took that in to the guy with all the measurements i required. only real changes he suggested was instead of having the two sliding shelves was just to have 1 that covered the area that the two cover in this picture. and also to add a light overhang on the main surface so it dont just look like a box. getting it made using Oak veneered MDF so it matches the rest of the furniture in the living room! - should be good! still waiitng for the price tho as he hasn't rang back yet at all!

I'm not sure what your setup is like or what your longer term aspirations are, but have you considered making the space between the desk and the upper shelf support rack-mount equipment? It looks like with a few minor modifications, that desk would have 3-wide 3U racks in there.

Just a thought.

pretty much all of the space is accounted for lol...

top shelf:
TT PC Screen TT

lower/main shelf:
CD Player Mixer CD Player

then the right hand pedistool will have my pc tower in the bottom right and above that will be a single shelf attached to the centre bit for my keyboard.

bottom left will be used for my CD's & vinyls

have left enough space around everything tho to allow for new products that may be bigger in size

What I've found to be perfect to me was when I was wandering around Home Depot. Basically, they're storage shelves for like a garage, only instead of stacking one on top of the other I've sat them next to each other. It's the perfect height, width, length, etc.

CD binders are stored on top of the computer case that doubles as a CD rack, mini fridge provides ample sustenance during mixing, fan on the stool gets swapped with my Powerbook if I want to record or stream.

I don't plan on building anything fancy until I get my own place and start buying more hardware.

That looks too short for me Jake. How tall are you again?

I'm pretty sure you can get the "legs" he's using cut to any length you want

Not necessarily aesthetically pleasing, but if it gets the job done.

You can make any DJ booth look awesome if you just dress it right, with a sheet or something hanging around the sides.

I like em tall though.

5'11". My previous table was far too short, this is at just the perfect height for me. I could probably go for just a bit taller, but anything shorter would kill me.

Posted by Spoonz on Jul-04-2007 20:51:

my main surface will be at 90 cm just right. currently i'm at 70cm height wise but could do with a little more. after about an hour bottom of my back starts to get a bit achy!

bloke rang today but i was in work. left his number to get back to him tho so gonna fone back tomorrow n get the show goin LOL
