Bahrain Cancellation
Dear fans, I am very sorry for what happened at the Marina Club in Bahrain last Wednesday. Allow me to explain to you what really took place.
The promoter disappeared after 1 a.m. with the DJ fee and the money everybody had paid for their tickets.
I still wanted to play at the party, so I was waiting for somebody to pick me up from the hotel and bring me to the venue. At 2 a.m., still nobody had arrived and we heard that police was already on the way to the venue. At that moment, I had no other choice than to stay in my hotel room.
The promoter tried to escape Bahrain, but luckily he got caught near the Saudi Arabian border. He is in jail at this moment.
Again, I am very sorry for what happened and I will definitely try to find a way to make it up with all my fans who bought tickets for the show.
Tisto

Fans riot after DJ 'no show'
By ALISTAIR BAPTISTA
IRATE trance fans wreaked havoc at the Marina Club in Manama early yesterday after noted Dutch DJ Tiesto failed to turn up at his debut Bahrain concert. More than 3,000 fans were expecting the DJ to begin his performance by 11pm on Wednesday.
But when he didn't show up by 1.30am, they hurled bottles and empty cans and stormed the stage, destroying equipment, lights and speakers.
Fans also destroyed surrounding barricades and made away with the equipment when they noticed security guards had fled the scene.
Police intervened to disperse the crowd, and prevent any further damage.
The show's organiser, Ayman Al Hamad, was in police custody yesterday, according to sources.
Marina Club food and beverage manager Suresh Naik said that it only rented out the venue and wasn't part of the organising team.
"We only did the catering for regular ticket-holders while they (the organisers) handled the VIP and VVIP catering," Mr Naik told the GDN.
Mr Naik said that there was "considerable" damage done to furniture, glasses and fridges, but was unable to project an estimated amount.
Local event organisers Outlaw Productions urged the organisers to refund tickets to disgruntled fans.
"The organisers requested Outlaw Productions to provide some ushers from the crew members to help out at the event, so Outlaw Productions crew members were merely manpower," it said in a statement.
"We would like to express our strong resentment to bad planning, lack of organisation and the way the organisers dealt and are dealing with the chaotic situation."
The event's warm-up DJ Karim Miknas said that the biggest shame was that the headlining artist didn't entertain the audience, some of whom had flown in from Kuwait, Dubai and other Gulf states.
He also urged the organisers to refund tickets and compensate fans, injured during the fracas.
"I agreed to play purely for the honour of opening for the best DJ on the planet," he said.
"The youngsters were enjoying themselves and were excited, but how much longer could they wait for their hero?
"I don't blame them at all, it was the organisers who messed up."
Dubai-based MC Hanane and local DJ Jackson were also attacked by irate fans during the melee, he said.
Disgruntled fans who bought tickets from Hava Java at the Seef Mall stormed the store yesterday demanding refund for the failed show.
A spokesman for the store said that they only provided tickets for the show and that their involvement ended there.
"Unfortunately the event's promoter took the ticket sales money with him just before the show," said the spokesman.
"He (the organiser) really should be ashamed of himself."

Manama, Bahrain - Thousands of fans of Dutch DJ Tiesto turned rowdy in Manama Wednesday night when he failed to turn up for a performance. Some of the more than 2,000 techno and house music fans had been waiting more than five hours for DJ Tiesto when they began hurling bottles and empty cans at organizers after news of Tiesto's decision not to perform spread through the waiting crowd.
One alcohol bottle caught fire after being hurled toward the stage as other members of the crowd began to throw empty bottles and glass at the organizers, a witness told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa. Others stormed the stage before police intervened to disperse the crowds.
DJ Tiesto, the first DJ in the world to sell out a solo stadium event for over 25,000 people two nights in a row, had refused to perform before he was paid in full by the organizers.
Several people were slightly injured during the rampage that also caused a multi-car collision between fleeing fans.
Police sealed-off the concert venue and blocked nearby roads.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
It says the fans rioted after Tiesto didn't show. The other one says he refused to perform until he was paid.
disgusting from whatever point you look at it.
Doesn't sound right.
If he was supposed to come on at 11pm, he probably should have been at the venue by 10pm. Promoter would have had to pick him up at 9.30pm.
"The promoter disappeared after 1 a.m." "At 2 a.m., still nobody had arrived" One would have sensed that something was wrong way before that. For a normal 3hr set, Tiesto would have been done by 2am.
wasn't there a death threat against him if he played this show???
i remember reading it a couple months ago
wow this is horrible what happened. i guess there are always two sides to every story...glad that they caught the guilty party tho.

Tiesto Terrorist Threat Hoax
31 May 2007
Rumours of alleged death threat appear to be unfounded...
A rumour that superstar DJ Tiestos life would be in danger if he played a scheduled gig in Beirut has been all over the dance forums this week, but the story has turned out to be false.
It was said that local terrorist group Fatah al-Islam had directly threatened to kill the DJ if the gig, on July 2nd, takes place.
The story was first reported by Lebanons independent news website Ya Libnan, which relies on volunteers to provide much of its proudly uncensored coverage.
But it seems on this occasion there were no grounds to the story and the news service has moved hastily to limit any damage to their own or their countrys reputation.
An statement released last night apologised for publishing the false rumours, stating, At Ya Libnan, we take pride in how we promote Lebanon as a premier tourist destination, and the last thing we want is to instigate unnecessary fear.
Lebanon has a vibrant, cosmopolitan nightlife culture with amazing beachfront party locations regularly hosting top international DJs like Danny Howells and Paul van Dyk, however recent political and religious trouble in the region has threatened the scene.
The Tiesto rumour may have started as a result of Latin American pop star Shakiras sudden unexplained cancellation of her world tour dates in Beirut.
But locals are determined that violence will not stop the party, or make visitors fearful of coming to enjoy their welcoming hospitality.
Tiesto himself saw the biggest turn out ever for a party in the Middle East when he played in Lebanon in 2005 - more than 16,000 people turned out to see one of his epic shows then, so hes sure to receive a hugely enthusiastic welcome on his return.

I blame Bush, the Christian Conservatives, and Israel for this

actually thats not a bad thing if it would have been done a decent way, its actually the 1st time ever i heared clubbers having enough balls and going protesting after they got screwed over with fake announcments or whatever...
ME personally turns nothing more down and mad than a headliner that is not showing up, if its the promotors or artist fault doesnt matter...
and someone always has to pay

I blame... capitalism and people demanding way too much money to see someone spin.
the opportunity for greedy mofo's to ruin it for the rest of us is too great.
and bush... he's in there somewhere too.
If Michael moore was in charge none of this would have happened, and poor tiesto could have played, vast right wing conspiracy to stop Arabs from having fun, I think

| Originally posted by chimera66 not good to assume all the rioters were Muslims, there are a good number of Catholics in Lebanon and about 30 or so years ago the country was mostly Catholic. |
