11.01 - Girl Talk, Daedelus, & Busdriver @ Engine Room, Houston

I don't care if it's 4 months away. I'm that excited for this, and I feel like talking about it. So start making plans, and discuss.

there. I added some pictures for you. if you have no idea who they are...well, 'tis a shame. Here--have a Daedelus set from earlier this year.

Girl Talk was at one of the frat parties on my campus back in May. The vibe was surprisingly good for a frat party, but GIRL TALK WAS TERRIBLE. Unless your idea of a good time is listening to top 40's rap being mashed up very very badly, I'd stay away.

I have no idea about the other two, though.

Posted by shaw on Jul-08-2007 18:58:

hahaha. his stuff isn't the most amazing in the world (at least not anymore...his first two albums were great), but it should still be fun. If you really can't stand any rap, you need to lighten up a bit.

Daedelus > both of them, though. That's the main reason I'm so excited about it.

Why? Most rap is shit. Throw together some lyrics about fucking bitches and busting caps in yo ass and you have a hit.

Frat parties = girls and booze, no?

If i wanted to hear top 40's mashed up, as in The Beach Boys with 50 Cent (please oblige), i rather go to a club down here on 6th street and get drunk with dry martinis and jacks. What do you say?

Chris Fortier next week, at least there's gonna be some quality music out there.

A lot of good rap exists. You shouldn't spread ignorant viewpoints like this; it's a stereotype that people will accept just because they can't be bothered looking past the genre's commerical representation to find the good stuff. I agree that most rap that is played over the radio and on MTV and shit went to hell a long time ago, but at the same time you have producers like Blue Sky Black Death and Jedi Mind Tricks who, I think, stay true to the hip hop style and continue to push the envelope.

because you don't have to be in evaluation mode 24/7. It's ok to not have an aneurysm if you hear simplistic music or dumb lyrics, or, God forbid, even have fun. You won't die.

I might make it out to this, just cause I miss that ass David, and I wanna get you drunk.

I didn't say I can't stand any rap. However, you can't deny that MOST rap is pretty terrible, and that the shit that makes the top 40's is almost universally crap. Girl Talk plays that kind of stuff, this isn't an uninformed opinion, and I can't stand THAT rap. And it's not a question of being analytical: it sounds terrible (even if I switch off my brain) and I don't enjoy the types of crowds it usually draws.

Man I promise, she's so self conscious
She has no idea what she's doing in college
That major that she majored in don't make no money
But she won't drop out, her parents will look at her funny
Now, tell me that ain't insecure
The concept of school seems so secure
Sophmore three years aint picked a career
She like fuck it, I'll just stay down here and do hair
Cause that's enough money to buy her a few pairs of new Airs
Cause her baby daddy don't really care
She's so precious with the peer pressure

Couldn't afford a car so she named her daughter Alexus (a Lexus)
She had hair so long that it looked like weave
Then she cut it all off now she look like Eve
And she be dealing with some issues that you can't believe
Single black female addicted to retail and well

Lyrics from Kanye West.

also, to each his own, I guess. Call it a guilty pleasure, then. Maybe he's gone more in that direction recently, too. I haven't heard anything since Night Ripper, and I'll give you the fact that, with each album, his stuff has gotten more & more simplified, with less sampling & craziness, but we shall see.

Even if he just puts a 50 Cent or Rihanna CD in & walks away, the rest of the show will still be awesome.

p.s. fuck Kanye

I can say the same thing about most House/Trance music.

Busdriver is cool. Black Astronaut FTW!
