ok well im going to start recording my demo so i ned to know how to hook my mixer up to my computer so i can record. I also need some suggestions on what programs i can use....Im going to be doing some editing through sound forge if that matters at all.

RCA to MiniPlug cable

RCA > connects to ur mixer
MiniPlug > goes to the Line-In in you sound card

You can use Sound Forge to record it too.

here's a tip kyle.. dont bother trying to do it in one shot because not only do transitions have to be perfect (duh) and levels too, but also if you're low on RAM in certain cases like me
EVEN after buying 512 MB of ram, then.. you're gonna get skipping

no shame in doing it in separate parts and then snapping together in cool edit.. i mean its a demo anyways

gotta be perfect

Well if you can't put together a smooth set in your bedroom under perfect conditions and with familiar equipment, then how do you expect to perform properly in a live situation at a party / club !? You're just cheating yourself. If you need to do your mix in several parts and then cut/paste it toghether, I suggest you go back and practice some more.

i never said i couldnt do a straight set. why do you think my TA competition mixes always have skipping.
im just saying that its annoying when you do that AND still have to worry about skipping from your computer ruining your recording.

ya, im pretty confidant with my skills, ive done the demo over and over without a problem before now all i need to do is record it. When i actually record i will probably break it into 3 sections just because i dont have the time to re do the entire thing if there is a problem at the end.....its all about saving time, i could throw a set down at a party no problem

You dont need 512 ram, what the hell are you using cool edit? Use total recorder to edit your stuff into wav or mp3, then use cool edit or sound forge to do editing, but i dont think editing is necessary unless you want to take out a crackle and pop or something small.

in any case.. my comp starts skipping in total recorder at around 60 minutes and onwards..
so ya i now just snap together my 'proper' mixes for distribution when i have to.

which doesnt mean i do 15 SEPARATE mixes obviously

And is 256MB RAM enough for a full hour mix?

basically, skipping = glitches in my comp's recording... split second stuff, usually starts after 60 minutes and then by the time im at 75 or so, it comes like once every 8 beats which is quite unbearable (to me at least)

sounds like a hard drive problem to me. Scan and defrag before recording. And set your virtual memory to 1 setting.

ah yes, i hate celerons. no offense, they are alright, but celeron needs to get up to gear with likes of AMD and Pentium.
