[Review] Starkillers Vs Austin Leeds @ Sully

I didn't see this posted up, so i'll tell you guys how it was..

Got there at around 11, was about halfway to 3/4 packed.. the usual crowd amount for Sully
I believe it was AlterImage that opened it up, and everything was going decent.. till about 12, then his cd started skipping.. I really think he was thrown off completely or discouraged after that, because for the rest of the time he was warming up for them, the mixing was way off and the energy was sucked out of what he was building.. total bummer

Nick Terranova comes on at around 1, and starts pounding out some electro with throbbing basslines and gets the crowd going crazy instantaneously! At this point I was like oh shit, this night is going to be nuts.. but seriously, he milked his set out quick. The energy was there the 45-1hr of peak hour tracks he put down, then it went like a rollercoaster. It really felt like i was there 4 hours already because of all that energy he put into the first hour (not a good thing).

Austin Leeds came on, i'm guessing he's supposed to be the neutralizing energy of the duo, because he was much more progressive side, and played some pretty good tribal tracks.. The transition from Nick to Austin from hard peak hour electro to Tribal/prog was actually pretty fuckin good.. but it was just the wrong time. I really think Austin should of came on before Nick, so Nick could of just blown up the house like he did, but later on during the night.
They kept switching on ~45min intervals, flip flopping these two styles, kind of an odd feeling..

I stayed there for a total of 2.5-3hours, and the place had already emptied out.. probably because nick drained the shit out the crowd with all that peak hour all at one time instead of building a flow to his set.. Only DJ i've seen pull that off (peak hour) successfully for hours and hours was David Guetta @ Pacha last halloween.

The bottom line is in my opinion.. they are both solid producers, but AL's sound from last year i think was better and should stick to that .. its what made him get heard and get big so quickly even though he's been around for years. Nick, i really love his productions, his basslines are fuckin dope, and always a crowd pleaser whenever i drop his shit live, but as for DJ'in, to me, they need more time behind the decks (hopefully this dirty sound tour will do the trick), and gradually build off of the crowd instead of just pounding out beats, and create a better, more uniform set.
all in all, a decent night, but they shouldn't be big room type deal for a bit

I'm not a man of TL's tho, sorry But the usual suspects that you thought they would play were played.. like Iio - Rapture (starkillers mix), Dirty Sound, and their collabs they've done together

Hey man, thanks for the review. We were having issues with one of the cdjs and they had to switch the mixer creating a little havoc for me.

Still had a good time and there was a great crowd for a Thursday night!

Equipment issues suck, and a misfunctioning CDJ is the WORST. I forget, are those MK3's? Those scare the fuck outta me, cause the firmware is so sketchy.

ugh...that explains it. My worst skipping experience was on a denon dns-1000 down in philly. I was so pissed I launched the cd I was playing into the crowd. haha

great review.

Sucks reading it though because I REALLY wanted to see Nick.

No way I can go on a weekday because I work so damn early and Armin is really early tonight too.

I need my sleep!
