Mekka - Diamondback (Ben Gold Mix)

Anyone know anything about this mix? I see it's signed to Perfecto and was played on the Deep Blue Radio Show by Mike Shiver... Any info appreciated including sample(s).

wow, bringin back some 99 memories with this mix. never heard the ben gold mix but loved the original to this tune when i was a wee one

a few weeks back i heard desyn play a song that sounded like a house remix of diamondback, is that how this one is supposed to be?

Nice update I suppose.

I wasn't moved by it....

Absolutely terrible.

These new remixes are just a way to use an old catchy melody, and apply it over the same tired hard baseline and kick that most new trance songs have.

It does nothing to stay true to the feeling of the original.

The unfortunate thing is, the old melody is just so damned good, the song will be a hit no matter how poor the remix is.

Absolutely fuckin terrible! Just more pointless butchery! Ben Gold the offender this time!

big +1, i loved the original & absolutely can't stand this. the new riff sound is horrible

it's a shame because ben got it pretty much on the money with his remix of primer - everlast, staying true to the original only beefing it up & adding a few complimentary elements. this is a complete butchers job though

Posted by RebeL9 on Jul-19-2007 11:06:

wow this is really a crappy remix. Seems like he didn't even bothered to do anything with it.

Posted by keithos27 on Jul-19-2007 13:34:

btw, he's remixed some other perfecto tracks as well so stay tuned...

Posted by StanVoid on Jul-19-2007 13:38:

loved the original, but this remix ripped the heart right out of it and substituted it with the "in-style" trance synths of today.

is that perhaps a good thing considering how much older the original is... i mean is that sort-of the point of an updated remix... to make it sound "fresher"?

no, because the sounds of the original are much more interesting and form a much warmer, deeper soundscape. In this remix, all those sounds got converted into generic modern trance synths - what's the point of that? I'm not opposed to the idea of remixing such a great track, but the remix should be good. This one, i'm just not feeling it.

Posted by keithos27 on Jul-19-2007 13:53:

okay i think we agree on the point of the remix... just you feel ben gold didn't do a good job at updating the original.

the original is a lovely track... orko told me he heard menno de jong drop it last week, that's pretty cool.

Posted by StanVoid on Jul-19-2007 14:00:

yeah, menno has a tendency to drop old trance tunes in his sets - i personally like that. Him playing the thrillseeker's remix of saltwater during ASOT 300 -

Wait, so is this a single new remix of "Diamondback" or are there others?

Wel, Jon O'Bir played it couple of weeks ago in Illusion,Belgium and I liked it very much. Not that bad remix imo

But who said "Diamondback" needs to be updated? Even if for someone it doesn't fit in a liveset with new tunes, it should be reworked in other way / style. This current tendency to remix / remake almost every trance classic is sick :<.

I can't understand why the great majority of trance music fans thinks that a liveset should be full of ID-ID tracks, and when incidentally a DJ drop a well-known tune or even classic (!), then he's a noob.

i certainly didn't, but it happens... and quite often lately it seems.

i, personally, love it when jocks like oakey do this... throw down some classics they are known for... nothing like a nice 2-3 hour set from oakey and have him drop "piledriver" towards the end of the night.

personally, i don't care if the songs are filled with old songs or id-id tracks... just as long as they flow and sound good. but that's pretty subjective now isnt it...

Posted by capricorn15 on Jul-20-2007 00:25:

definitely not the song i was thinking of. the beginnign sounds really generic. that part stinks, the breakdown is good, i guess cuz it has the original part in it, man the original is really good, this remix doesnt compare really though, he should just delete this out of the myspace and scrap it.
