I would have been interested a decade ago. Not anymore.

Posted by Sushipunk on Jul-20-2007 00:32:

Yeah, I kinda have to go see it. I mean, it's the Simpsons movie...you HAVE to.

Posted by Frenchie on Jul-20-2007 00:36:

probably right. The new ones are sometimes funny but they try too hard to bring in the 'guests' or let jackasses like ricky gervais write what was quite possibly the least funny episode of any show ever.

Posted by beats and beeps on Jul-20-2007 01:00:

what I find so bad about the new simpsons is that they rely on current events so much. gay marriage, medicinal marijuana, etc.

the old ones didnt do this nearly as much, they were timeless.

of course south park has like relied on current events for a pretty long time, so it works better for it. With the simpsons it fails.

Posted by Frenchie on Jul-20-2007 01:02:

You cannot compare South Park and Simpsons. One is clearly 10x better.

Posted by beats and beeps on Jul-20-2007 01:04:

I think its fair to compare them in the respect that they are both popular half hour comedy cartoons which have had full length movies. In my opinion SP timed the release of their movie perfectly. Where as simpsons have not in my opinion.

The only reason I compared them in my second post is that I knew someone could just easily go "but you just said you liked sp! thats all about current events!"

SP movie was definitely timed a lot better than simpsons. to do it 3 years into your series, and not 18 years...much better option.

imo, the simpsons movie should be the end of the simpsons. you know what i mean? like end on a high note and thats it.

think south park will make another movie? i'm doubting it

Yeah - that's pretty much a nail on the head kind of post right there.

And Frenchie - between South Park and the Simpsons I'd really like to know which one you feel is 10x better, because I think that if you can't even compare them to begin with, then clearly neither is better than the other.

It really is like comparing apples and AIDS.

Edit: And I agree with Will, this should be the end. Too bad it won't be

Posted by Clovis on Jul-20-2007 02:05:

That wasn't funny at all.

Posted by Googooly on Jul-20-2007 02:18:

Im looking forwar to this movie alot!

homersimpson is the coolest guy in the world. end/.

Posted by idoru on Jul-20-2007 02:19:

I'm not holding out any hope. I'll see it at some point, sure, because it's what I've grown up on, but I will be genuinely surprised if it's good.

Posted by RJT on Jul-20-2007 02:41:

Also, I'd like to add that I've become very, very tired with being a Simpsons cynic, and think I will therefore be going to see this in the theaters even though it may well prove to be nothing more than a failed attempt at remembering a happier time for the series.

And from a few of the clips I've seen (including the one in this thread), I still think I'll probably enjoy it.

Everything from seasons 2-9 is absolutely timeless - and still every bit as funny to me today as it was then.

Word. Def late on the release, but there's no way I'm passing this up. Gonna get stoned and faded with friends and watch together. Should be fun times.

you can apply that to pretty much anything. It dates them, and takes the humor away for anybody who disagrees. South Park is pretty good at doing it in a way so that you can laugh at it, no matter where you stand, but for every one like that, there are 100 that can't pull it off.

I will go and see it, just because it's well... The Simpsons movie... Hopefully the film will capture what the older episodes had and won't blow as many chunks as the new episodes.

One thing that annoys me is how they are marketing this film as being all non innovative and in 2D, when all you need to do is look at the previews or the first post video to see they have spent heaps of time making this film look as 3D as possible.

From the trailer in this post, it doesn't look even vaguely 3D.

It appears that they used a little more shading and definition in the animation than usual, but to call it 3D would be a fail I think.

Went to harry potter yesterday.

Before the movie started we got a preview of the simpson movie. Quite hilarious at least for me so am definitly going to see it.

I just hope it will be better than the family guy movie.

Is there any Futurama movie? Bender

Have to go see it?

Nah, download a dodgy cam rip maybe, but I'll be fucked if I'm paying money to see it in a cinema

Posted by THE_Chris on Jul-20-2007 10:00:

That clip looks really like "new Simpsons" which is rubbish compared with the old stuff. Was kinda hoping they'd go back to basics with the film.

Looks like we're going to end up with just about the most popular film ever, thats going to be one of the worst films ever. Hopefully it'll mean the end of the Simpsons, because its time they stopped it now.

Posted by RJT on Jul-20-2007 13:31:

I just hope the movie isn't one big currents event joke after another - make it about Springfield and the people who live there, and that's it.

I fell in love with the Simpsons because I cared about the characters, not about using characters to poorly illustrate some sort of absurd social commentary.

Anyone see Groening on the Daily Show this week? The guy is honestly a walking marketing machine.

one of my favorite episodes ever was "22 Short stories about Springfield". a parody of Pulp Fiction, but about Springfield. was classic.
